any mac people here

I got my son a mac mini, nice little computer.I am not a mac guy at all. He took garage band and put it in the trash then empyed trash.How can I get it back. I can't imagine it's gone for gooD. I looked in applications and its not there.

Your mac should have come with a System and Reinstall disc that will have Garageband on it. If your son took Garageband out of the Apps folder and threw it out, it's gone for good and you will have to reinstall it with you reinstall disc. Good luck,

Reinstall it from the iLife disk. Punch your kid in the head first.


ps- so you know- emptying the trash makes it basically impossible to recover the data without a third-party data recovery program.

It makes it darn near impossible even with third-party recovery software. Trust me, I've tried it. Mac OS X, unlike Mac OS 9, doesn't usually take an eternity to reuse slots in the directory structures. The data may be there, but good luck trying to find it unless you are willing to do a block-by-block substring search of the drive....
