Is there any reason I couldn't use a Delta 1010, and use the firepod at the same time? Or do I need to match my units? Is it a one or the other kind of thing?

You should be able to use both simultaneously since one uses a PCI card and the other a firewire port.
Two issues that may arise is driver type and synchronization.
Some sound cards must use ASIO drivers and some WDM but I am not sure you can mix ASIO with other types. depending on your computer type and Operating system.
If you are going to record AND playback using both you may have to invest in a clock or slave one to another via SPDIF or Wordclock.
I am not a computer person so hopefully someone else will chime in.

Hmmm, I know I use ASIO drivers. And I also know ASIO supposedly only supports one driver at a time. Methinks you can't actually use the two. I didn't even think about synch issues. Man this sucks. I am having a tough time figuring out what to do here.

What exactly are you wanting to do?
If you are on a desktop, you could always buy another Delta. They work off the same driver so you can use multiple units.
I am sure there are other work arounds, you are bound to not be the only one trying to use different manufacturers interfaces on the same computer.

I wanted more preamps, but then I got the idea in my head that I might as well just get another interface that includes preamps like the firepod. Two birds, one stone. It seems decent preamps are cheaper when you buy the interface instead of just a rack unit preamp.

i believe the ASIO4ALL http://www.asio4all.com/ drivers is what you need. And instead of choosing the delta or firepod in your application...you'll choose the ASIO4ALL driver instead.

that sounds perfect. I just hope I don't spend the money on an interface and then find problems with the driver. We'll find out. I just went out and spent $400 on other stuff cause I had money burning a hole in my pocket. But I'll spend my next wad on a firepod.
Today I bought an SWR Workingman 300 bass head to replace my Peavey Mark VIII. Plus an SM57, EV644A mic, and a Shure Prologue 10L. Also a new boom stand. Now I need a new speaker cab to replace my beat up 2X10 Genz Benz.
