you dont have any panels for first reflections. Was this a decision you made?

on the back wall, i noticed a hard corner sticking out - you might consider covering that - maybe skitch the 2 panels on top of each over on an angle to cover that diffraction point. maybe put a panel on the back of the door as well since that counts as a flat wall when you have the door closed. the side reflection points - probably less of a concern given the room is laid out wide. you have a drum kit on one side which can be a source of reflections - but - the rounded drums somewhat act like polys so its probably not too bad but resonances would be a problem so maybe get a couple of heavy packing blankets to drape over the kit and the keyboard (keeps dust off too!) to kill off some reflections and reduce resonance volume. or hang the blankets on either side (symmetrically and angled slightly is good too) to keep the side reflections down and still let the absorption on the walls work.

yeah, i've already considered draping the drums because when i clap my hands in the room the only noticable resonance is coming from the drums themselves rather than the walls.

as for that hard corner on the rear position, that was the reason i had to abandon my v-shaped traps. they would have stuck out so much that maneuverablity in the room would've gotten too difficult. the stacked traps are in a recess in the wall. you may notice that in the right-hand corner behind the drums there's a small recess as well (which made the two corner traps back there assymetrical). that protruding wall that the 3 posters are on is actually a foundational support for this giant fountain in our sunroom directly above my studio (obviously i'm not running water to the fountain). my house was built in 1929 and it has its quirks.

if i made a small 4" L-shape to just sort of "wrap" that 90 degree angle sticking out, would that help?

oh, and thanks for pointing out the door. i was debating whether or not to do that. i figure a panelled closed door would be better than an open door to the rest of the basement, which is obviously as reflective as the studio used to be.

thanks for the response! :)

i assume you're talking about the short walls on either side of the mix position. yes, orignially i had planned on putting 2" panels on both walls, but as the project continued, there were several factors that contributed to the decision not to do it.

1. i already have the mix position turned 90 degrees from the ideal scenario, where early reflections would normally be coming from the long walls at the side-to-side position (as gullfo pointed out).

2. i didn't want to completely kill the room res for tracking purposes.

3. as the project progressed, i saw so much improvement that i really wondered about their necessity.

4. and this one makes me deserving of a little harrassment: aesthetics. where would i put my posters and that kick-ass vinyl print of the rene descartes artwork that graced the cover of my last cd (the thing hanging behind the drums)? :o:D:o
