I think Harvey posted some clips a while back. As far as mentioning other brand names, You guys can compare and post, but I can't. People compare and name brand names all the time. For example I CAN NOT SAY these mics are better than***** mics, but after the last GB, you guys that got them, posted your remarks. Nothing wrong with that

But what about your new 1200 vs your 6802? Surely thats fine.

Harveys clips are of the 6802 if I remember?

We want to know more about the 1200...

Thanks,
Gareth

There were many who got this mic in the first GB I believe that number was HST-11A. My opinions of these would be biased and people that got them would be more valid info.
BTW I am planning to start requesting payments by the end of next week. Judging by the last GB I will allow a month to submit payments before it cuts off.

In that case... does anybody have an Ap*x 460 and an ACM 6802? How would you describe their differences. I know that the 460 gets modded a lot. I like the sound of my 6802 stock. So Apex 460 stock vs. ACM 6802 stock. Totally subjective, which would you pick?

Yeah definately a good question.

Chance... I know you're opinion is "biased" but could you at least describe the differences between YOUR two tube mics.... I'd really like to know so that I dont end up buying a pair of each and then finding they're really similar - I'd rather but some more ribbons or 310's or pre's instead!

Thanks,
Gareth

The ACMP-81 has no meter?

Hmm, maybe that's not a problem because my multitrack has a level meter on each track. I can adjust the preamp gain with that.

P.S chance - you mentioned you had some extra ACM1's around. Could you PM me a price on these if you still have them?

Cheers,
Gareth

Ooh, me too, Chance. That's mainly what I was planning on getting if I go in for the next buy, but if you have a couple extras, I could probably take them off your hands.

I'll try to post the differences later today

Did I miss the extra info on this mic?

1. What type of capsule is used?
2. What tube does it come with and is it hardwired on socket?
3. Does it come with a shock mount?
4. Chance, how much input did you have in the design of this mic? Did you tweek it after the last GB?

I researched back through all the files and could not find anyone who bought or even commented on the GB where this was offered. Maybe I missed it.

Thanks!

Earl

Extra capsules?

Chance,

Since you're doing another run of the 310 anyway, is there any possibility that we could order some 310 capsules by themselves?

I'd like to get maybe a dozen of these things and put various random SDC capsules inside... maybe buy some Oktava capsules on eBay and stick the guts in, maybe try some of the Panasonic electret capsules that MsHilarious uses (or used, not sure anymore) with a filter cap and a bypass low-noise zener to limit the capsule voltage, not sure what else. Maybe I might use the connector portion of one or two and build custom grilles to hold an LDC or ribbon element... or put in a 1/4 jack with a balun and have myself something almost, but not quite, entirely unlike a tube DI. :D

I can't do any of that, though, without a way to get capsule housings. I can't find a good way to cut threads with that pitch. I really just need the housing and the connector guts, but entire capsules would be okay as well if that's easier. It doesn't make sense to buy entire 310s for that, though (though I do plan to buy one more so that I'll have a spare and will feel more comfortable recapping and whatever other mods I end up doing to the body :D).

Let me know if that's a possibility. Thanks.

I think I've established what this mic is.

As chance has said, its very... ahem.. "weapons grade". Its been mentioned previously on what to look for, but lets just say its an american weapon:p

From there, you'll find out that this mic costs a lot of money.. you'll then find some interesting comparisons between it and a cheaper mic. Essentially, thats what we have here. However, If I'm correct in thinking I've found the correct factory website, this seems to be the model up from the said mic. Pretty sure its only bodywork mind.

This mic looks verrryyy similar to a red C12 clone that I've seen around. Not sure if the red one is modded but if you search a very well known forum for some info you *should* pick up on it.

The post also includes a picture of one of the newer ribbons.. which is why I think you'll be led to the same maufacturer chance is using (this is only my guess, by the way!) as I've never seen it before (unlike the royer clones etc).

To be honest I'm a little wary of this one.. chance seems reluctant to post any real info on it. Not to say chance isnt doing a great job.. I'm definately in for 84's, ACM3's and 6802s! ...But I feel theres been a lot of "shade" around this mic and no real info.

I think I'll get two anyway with the intention of ripping the guts out and modding the **** out of it, as I've always wanted to build a mic. If you look at posts for the "cheap weapons grade" mic a lot of people feel that it really needs to be modded to be usable. Some think it needs to be modded to get the best of it.. some like it as it is. Either way.. its FAR cheaper than buying a "real" one.

Chance... any info yet:D;):p

Hey guys
I'm starting to think I put too many things in the fire at one time. Perhaps I should/should have done this for the mic-pres seperate from the mics. I was working on the lollypop capsule for the 310, but never finished it. The 1200 mic uses a 12AX7 and is in a socket. I had no input in this design. I am still waiting for more specs and just got an auto reply from an E-mail saying they will be back from the trade show in Frankfort on the 25th

Gareth to not screw this up, pls k ty.

I'm as anxious to get this thing on the road as anyone else, but gg man. Relax.

Haha I'd agree.. but only because I want it all and dont have the money for it!:D:D

No worries on the info, I think most of us have established what it is now. For me it was just a bit strange that you hadn't posted anything about it so was starting to get a little skeptical.

Keep up the good work chance, not trying to bring you down!:)
Looking forward to it as much as ever
Gareth

When you register, you will be able to view the prices. I just looked and you are already registered. You should be able to view the prices now

What if you registered and received the confirmation email but it contained no password? It is difficult to get into the user console without that. :) Thanks for all your effort chance and Zetajazz44, we appreciate it.

I believe..

The way it worked for me is that the first time you log in...the password is "password" without the quotes. Then you have to change it. You'll get a separate email (I did) after changing it with the new password.
