Maybe instead of being so confrontational, you could find out why my attempt failed, and try to help me, instead of being such a disrespectful jerk.
By the way dipshit, you shorten "You are still wrong" like this: "You're still wrong."

If you didn't care what I thought of you you wouldn't be defending yourself so mightily.
Why don't you take your shitty attitude and shove it up your ass?

Show some respect or leave.

Mutt, the rest of us appreciate your knowledge and I think you know that. This worthless pustule will go away, like the rest of 'em.

Just kidding with you, I couldn't leave you guy's...:D

It would take more than a noob with a bad attitude to drive me from the fight. Hell I dont even need a hug yet.:p

oh god, i thought you really left and it was all because of my topic :(

thanks alot for all your help

Guy's never forget, muttley600 has been insulted by experts before, this is not even a fart in my general direction.

By the way dipshit, you have described me in the past tense, just to correct you it should be the present tense, especially as you conclude your sentence structure in the present tense. Beside that, I don't care what the fuck you think, and that stands in the future tense.

Also, who the hell is "you you"? Did you miss the comma key or did you wear it out in your first sentence?

I have an irresistable urge to pile on but you certainly don't need any help at the moment. :D

No problem, I'll leave.
Thanks for showing me the door, Mr. Cantankerous old fart.
One less worthless pustule you'll have to contend with.

this is way out of fucking hand. i dont really think anyone did anything bad enough for this to get elevated this high.

Don't worry about it, If you look back he started on me after I pointed out he was wrong on a few counts. Apparently I wasn't sensitive enough for him in my response. It seems when he turned on me I was supposed to accommodate him AND help him solve a problem he'd had. Yeh right..Sorry but in those circumstances I'd rather call him out. He can't be that familiar with the form here because he's starting on Zaphod now and that just doesn't happen.:D

I'm not bothered by any of it and you shouldn't be. You asked a perfectly reasonable question and amongst all this is a method that will work for you. Think about what you want to achieve and find the best way to get there.;)

Get your decals, print a few and experiment on some scrap. When you find a method that works for you. Thats the one to go with. A lot of times us experienced luthier types solve problems exactly like that, trial and error. The advantage we have is a lot of experience of demanding work with various materials and an understanding of how they work. We get that from swapping info, experience, speaking to suppliers and specialists and a bunch of other places. The difference is if we don't get it right first time we try again. After a few failures we learn to test on scrap and find out how stuff works, but we don't give up and we find a way to do what needs to be done.

If you have any specific finishing questions I'd be more than happy to help. Or any guitar related stuff for that matter. In the meantime have fun with it.;)

I'd just like to apologize to each and everyone of you. I've spoken out of turn. Please, forgive me. Generally speaking, I try my best to make the world a brighter place, and I've failed miserably in this thread. At the same time, don't feel obliged to like me, or even acknowledge this apology.

No problem fella, consider it forgotten. We all have bad days.

So now that the dust up is done,

I would be interested in knowing more about making waterslide decals. Can you suggest a site that's good for getting started?

It's really not that hard. You just print them with a decent ink. Seal them with the supplied fixer or a light coat of vinyl sealer. Cut the decal off the sheet. Float it in a shallow dish of water. When it's loose carefully slide it onto your workpiece and dab it down gently with a soft cloth. The problem arises here when you want to hide it under a finish. Then you have to asses what finish you have already and what to put on top. Shellac is ideal because it makes a very good bond between coats of incompatible finishes or helps get a finish to take on a material that has cured and won't accept further coats when it has. Polyester for example. I'm sure if you google waterslide decals you'd find some tutorials of some sort.

I have plenty of experience with finishes and I can handle that part. I've always done inlays on the pegheads of new guitars, but I'd like to add decals to my arsenal.

Could you suggest a source for the paper? What about ink? Do you ynow of a site that walks you through the process?

I'm in the UK so the supply I use wouldn't really be right for you. Most of the decal paper I've seen are pretty much the same. As has been mentioned branded ink is best as it has better colour fastness and driers. Archival ink would be even better but not essential. Avoid the cheaper generic stuff as they are prone to fading. All this stuff is readily available.

A quick google for "waterslide decal guitar" gives this.

What do you know! Thats pretty much what I've been saying all along.
OR. THE EASY WAY.(USE REALLY SOFT CLOTH)

APPLY A VERY THIN FILM OF FRENCH POLISH TO HEADSTOCK TOP..LEAVE FOR 5 MINS.

(USE RUSTINS WATER BASED FRENCH POLISH)

AND LIGHTY BUFF TO A FINISH.

APPLY THE DECAL AS ABOVE.(USE TEPID WARM WATER)

LEAVE TO DRY.(REMOVE ANY AIR BUBBLES)

APPLY A QUICK SMALL FILM OF FRENCH POLISH..LEAVE TO DRY..THEN BUFF SOFTLY.

REPEAT APPLICATION OF FRENCH POLISH FOUR OR FIVE TIMES.
