If I wanted to search for shit on ebay I would go to ebay. I think if you're selling something here, it should be for sale HERE. Ebay auction threads are not that different from spam in my eyes. What's the difference, you could post links to guitar center or a pawn shop and it would look the same to me. No offense I know everybody here does it, but that doesn't make it right.

I don't know about anyone else, but I do it so anyone who is interested can see the item,(photos) read about it, and get all the info needed in one place rather than having to answer each individuals questions about size, how much to ship, color, does it work, etc etc etc and having to upload stuff to this site, which just takes up room here, on the server.

At least thats why I do it.

If it offends you, I am sorry,.... I will stop offering my stuff here if I am told it is not wanted.

I just thought some of the folks here would like a shot at some of my stuff,.... I have collected some fairly nice Tube driven stuff, and quite a bit of older ANALOG stuff.

and the mics, and the straps,

I will be listing tape decks, and tube driven PA amps sometime next week.

If you are a REAL player, you may have at least a passing interest in some of my stuff, especially the NOS tubes.

But if not,...... I will stop telling folks here.

To me, the difference is one is an individual selling and the other are businesses selling. I think an individual sell something on ebay and letting the people here know about it is fine. I know that I have sold things on ebay and told friends about it after the fact and they got mad because I didn't tell them about it. Businesses, on the other hand, should have to pay to advertise here. I see nothing wrong with someone giving the rest of us a friendly heads up:)

I always prefer the FA (For Auction) preface in the title, that way I have an expectation set up as to a personal interaction or not.

But I really don't care, if I want it, why wouldn't I go through ebay to get it, especially if it benefits someone from the board?

testify!

No shite... I wish there was a button where we could flag something if not listed for auction. I really have no interest in reading about an ebay auction and it probably hurts people trying to sell items through the board. I know I check this section far less now as it's usually just a link.

I think people showing links to their auctions is a good thing...if they have good feedback score on ebay it builds trust...I would like to buy sell and trade more on forums however Im reluctant to do it in case i get ripped off...When there are links to peoples ebay accounts you can actually ask the seller/forum member a question on ebay and you can make sure your not getting scammed...even then you have to be aware of new ebayers/forum members who are trying to sell with little to no feedback.

I think its another way to build trust when buying selling and or trading on the internet.

This is my problem too. I want an easy transaction with a fellow board member, not a freakin bidding war so the seller can make as much money as possible. If you have something for sale and you know what you want for it, then post it up and be done with it. If you want to make as much money as possible then go to ebay and don't bother with the board.

I feel like I'm being lied to every time I click on a post that says "XY for sale". I think to myself "hey great I want to buy that item", and so I click on the post but then all I get is a stupid ebay link and a sentence saying "my XY is up on ebay". It seems to me this is just a way to up the interest on their ebay auctions and make more money.

If you post about an item for sale, that means I should be able to post a reply and then buy it right there. Instead I am offered a link to ebay where I have to fight for the item. All it does is bloat the board with stuff that's not actually for sale here and it wastes my time and everybody else that doesn't want to deal with scambay.

I belong to another forum for selling comic books...I had a bunch of comics one time and wanted to offer/sell to people on message boards and what not...people were complaining about the links to ebay from everyone posting in the selling and trading section so they divided up the forum and made a section for ebay only selling.

I think thats what they should do here as well

Example...scroll down to trading section...they sell and trade there however they have a seperate section for ebay sales/links.

This would solve the problem I think.

Mr Studio sir,.....
If you had items you wished to part with,
and it was so you could accomplish two or three things with that action,
And you were/are a member of a website that catered to a population that had an interest in your items, why for the love of god WOULDN'T you post a notice for those people??????

You must be either independently wealthy, don't care about other members financial situation, have NO patience,or are generally not interested in anyone else's gear, or a combination of those.

I post here for those who may have an interest so they can view the items, and make an offer that would be reasonable.

Auctions on Ebay can be ended by the seller at ANY TIME up to the last 12 hrs.
If someone here had enough interest in ANYTHING I referred them to, they merely have to contact me with a reasonable offer, and I would end the Ebay auction and let a fellow musician HR member, or RP member buy what I am offering.
I think an EBAY section to the items for sale is a great idea,.... but until that happens.....GET OVER IT HOMEY>>>>>>>>>>It ain't that critical.

Steve:rolleyes:

I think if you want to sell something on ebay and offer it here as well then you should post it here first. Then if no one is interested in it here go sell it on the bay. Its really not a big deal to me either way, but this is more of a real community than ebay is, and it seems like more of a courtesy to try and sell it here first instead.

If you want to sell items to members here, then why don't you list the items for sale HERE. Why are you putting them on ebay and then linking? I know why, because you are probably a member of multiple sites and you go to each one and post the item link to ebay in the For Sale section. You're doing it because you're targeting your potential customers and then driving traffic to your auction in the hopes of getting as much money as possible.

As a matter of fact I saw the same listing for an "ELVIS MIC" with a link to ebay here that I saw at another forum I frequent.

I don't care that you are trying to make a buck, good for you. But you are wasting my time by making me sift through all the ebay links on my quest for an item that's ACTUALLY for sale HERE.

I'm just ranting because I come here to buy stuff, if I want to look for something on ebay I can do that on ebay. I don't need posts here telling me that such and such is on ebay. Guess what? Whatever it is you are selling, there are probably 10 or 100 of those items on ebay. I already KNOW I can find it on ebay.

This isn't some life quest for me, it just irritates me and seems like a gigantic waste of time. Not to mention I think it drives people away.

Perfect resolution. If only the administrator would do it though.

Yes I do belong to several web sites that cater to those who have the same interests,

Yes I did post links to those same Auctions,

NO it was not with the thought in mind that I would make more money,.....

The main purpose was to inform as many of those who I am already associated with,
The opportunity to own some of my VINTAGE gear before it sold to a stranger.
Sort of 'keeping it all in the family' kind of thing.

If you are too short sighted to get that,... then you missed all the wording or misinterpreted it, or just didn't read it at all.

I would much prefer to sell items here to people I know would get the most out of it,Than to sell my items to a perfect stranger .

I am also selling the stuff because I NEED the income to pay bills, and to survive till my REAL work starts .

I cannot wait for two or three weeks to see if a member can get up the funds,....and then find out they changed their mind.

Ebay forces immediate action.

as I said before,..... I am ONLY doing it to offer members a shot at some pretty freekin nice stuff.

If someone here would have stepped up on the 520 SL Green Bullet, I would have sold it here instead of sending it to Japan to someone I don't know....

They go for at least $50 more on average than I ended up selling it for,... so whoever here wanted that item REALLY freekin missed out on a bargain!!!! the thing was MINT, and worked GREAT.

Go ANYWHERE and try to find one in that condition for under $100.

Cant be done.... at least not real easy....

I rest my case.

Steve

A seperate section for ebay sales/links would be good. As was mentioned, simply stating in the subject FS (For Sale), FA (For Auction), FT (For Trade) would go a long way to help people avoid opening posts that they're not interested in.

Look, I don't really care why you're selling things, or who you sell them to. I am just sick of wading through ebay links masked as items for sale on the site. Maybe you do have some interest in letting people on the forums know about a cool item for sale, but in all reality it's still a cross forum approach at getting people to go to an ebay auction. At the very least everybody selling something as an ebay auction should have to label as such right in the subject line. That way at least people like me can avoid it, and people who really are looking for a specific hard to find item on ebay will know it's there.

+1000 It seems more logical to offer something to your buddies here first. It's also safer than selling something to a complete stranger on Fleabay.
