Hi.

My brother has the MR8 (first generation, I guess), and desires to know what is the maximum capacity CF card that can be used in it. We have seen that CF cards are (when last researched) up to a whopping 32Gigs. I am sure that he isn't looking to go that far, but what about 16Gigs. No one else (not even Fostex) seemed to have an answer for this, but we hope that someone here will.

Hi.

My brother has the MR8 (first generation, I guess), and desires to know what is the maximum capacity CF card that can be used in it. We have seen that CF cards are (when last researched) up to a whopping 32Gigs. I am sure that he isn't looking to go that far, but what about 16Gigs. wish I could help...I'd like to know too. Last card I bought was 2 gigs. Seems like I heard that was the max. Maybe it was at the time?

Fostex doesn' t know?

Seems to me that CF cards are getting harder and harder to come by, as all the cameras and what-not have switched over to SD. The largest CF card I've seen (and use) was a 2GB. Are you sure that you saw a 32GB card? It wasn't 32MB?

I have to google this now.

cf cards

I checked the fostex confirmed recording media web page for the MR8 and 2GB is the largest confirmed they list.

I may be wrong but it seems like sometime ago fostex said the last firmware update for the MR8 was to enable it to use up to a 2GB. I don't remember for sure.

I agree, unless you intend to mix on the MR8 a 2 GB should handle most any song you want to record.
Transfer to a computer using the Wave Manager from the fostex site and do mixing, EQ and effects on the computer.

Works fine that way! Good luck!

Thanks everyone.

I agree with the concensus, here. However, my brother wishes to be able to use his MR8 to record an entire concert of his performance. He wishes to have some degree of separation with his inputs, and this is why we were wondering about this.

Here's the confirmed media list mentioned earlier, so you can make sure you get a compatible card: http://www.fostexinternational.com/docs/support/MR8_Operation_CF_20071213.pdf

I use a 1 gig card and record 2 tracks (the most an original MR8 will handle at one time) when I'm recording live. Using this setup I get just over an hour and a half of recording time. With a 2 gig card, you'll get a little over 3 hours (and it will take like 30 minutes to transfer to a computer over the USB 1.1 connection the original MR8 has. Go get a sandwich while you wait ;))
