Firestudio and Firestudio project are based on the DICE II chipset. In addition to hardware compatibility issues, this is plagued by poor drivers.

FIREPOD/FP10 is relatively solid from a driver perspective, but the hardware often fails due (I suspect) to inadequately protected PHY silicon.

The Digimax is not an interface. It's a stand-alone preamp that can hook to any interface that supports dual (S/MUX) ADAT lightpipe.

Which one is the best? The FIREPOD/FP10, as long as it keeps working for you.

I would still like to know if you ever owned one or are you going off WHAT you heard, problably the latter

The preamps are ok. Like other cheaper preamps, they have some minor issues recording very quiet sources but not too much else. We ended up buying and keeping our Digimax FS units for our mini mobile rig and I have nothing to complain about

The songs SIlence of the Damned, A better Place and Vultures of War were done by me on just the firepod, no extra pre's. The other songs were done by the artist, still just on the firepod

I love my Firestudio personally. Though I am waiting for new drivers, there are one or two issues that need sorting out. But I make kickass recordings with it.

The Focusrite Saffires are not DICEII. They use the BridgeCo/BeBoB interface chipset. I was pretty sure of this, but I just opened one up to double check and be sure.

Hmph. For some reason, I was thinking their Pro models were DICE II. My bad.

For whatever it's worth, some BeBoB vendors also use chunk sizes that are much too large in an attempt to get CPU load down, thus resulting in CPU spiking problems. I think most of those manufacturers should have updates to fix this by now, but I'm not certain.
