Trying to decide between the ASUS P5K and the Intel DG965WH. I will be going with the intel Quad core Q6600 processor, and using DDR2 800 RAM.

Sound card(s) Delta 1010lt
Pro Tools M-Powered

Any input or ideas....or other boards to consider?

Reason is ....I have Dell P4 3.0 HT and cannot solve pops and clicks. I've tried M-Audio support, Forums, etc, and have decided to just build a another machine. (tested the cards in an older P3 and they are fine)
Hey at least I can keep the Dell for surfing :)

Look at the feature set and make a decision based on that, Get only what you need or will need. I run a 965 and it has been problem free but based on what is available today, I would go to a P35 based mainboard. Believe me, going to a Q6600 will be an experience that you wont forget. I went from a P4 prescott 3.4 to a E6600 and I have yet to hit the ceiling in cubase with it.

Hi,

Does anyone have a thought about the following for a base for a DAW:

Intel DX38BT Motherboard
Intel Quad Core Q9450 - 12MB L2 2.66 GHz 1333Mhz Fsb
Corsair TWIN3X2048-1333C9DHX - DDR3 - 2Gb

If anyone has followed my posts - it will be replacing a newly purchased iMac Core 2 2.4Ghz

Thank again guys,

Martin.

Martin,

Welcome back to the sane side of the force where actually you make the decisions about your hardware vs. having them dictated to you by some emo dipshit ;)

Anyway, looks good. I have had nothing but Corsair going on 5 years in my machines and they have been plenty solid. I dont think x38 is necessary unless you need all the bells and whistles, P35 should save you a c note and get about the same performance. The price vs. performance difference between the 1066 and 1333 is marginal at best so if you are in the market right now, 1066 machines will give you way more bang for the buck

Thanks! That's encouraging, I am so tired of screwing with this. I had to do a jingle 2 nights ago and just had to live with the pops and clicks. Stuck to 16/44.1 just to keep the glitches to minimum. Funny thing was, by the time it was mixed down and a quickie mastering in sound forge it sounded purdy good :D

BTW I didn't charge em for the extra audio (pops and clicks) :p
They were aware of the problem, but getting it done was more important.

I have the P5K (deluxe wi-fi) and it's a decent board.
It does get rather toasty though - due to its heatpipe cooling system. If you get this board I would reccomend using the stock intel cooler - or any cooler that blows down onto the mainboard, rather than the one I have installed, which blows towards the rear of the case. I should really change it, but it's soooo quiet (Noctuna fan - makes Zalman sound like a wind-tunnel :) ) and I frankly can't be bothered. I'm going to let this box sweat until it dies :p

I've found that recent Intel boards are excellent (I've been using them to build NAS boxes in work) and have been very stable; so I would definitly go Intel personally, although the my P5K is working well :)

Either really. Which one has the nicest colour?
