Rami - PM sent..... :D

If Rami's doing drums I think you could use some real bass too, if you don't have that covered already I'd be happy to jam along, just let me know :D

Gerry,
Nice work. I know you do sketches with the keyboard & then, if you like the thing, work with Mr Mike Bassman to get a cool finished product.
I like the keyboard flourish at the beginning. The organ chords thereafter don't actually add too much sonically - need some vamping & some of those sustained high notes that make soul & Chicago blues stand out.
If you've snared a drummer and bass player I think you might find the key surplus to needs.
I think you did this cover in fine Clapton style - restrained but on the spot. You might pinch a couple of more notes to give the blood people are hankering for.
Me, I love listening to the blues by white boys as well as the true possessors, except, funnily enough SRV - couldn't get into his take on things.
Other than standing at the crossroads this evening I can't offer anything more.
PS how'd you get your signature back?

this sounds like a karaoke version.

horrible.

have you even listened to the original? if you haven't i forgive you : you're just ignorant.

if you have; fucking hell!!! HOW DARE YOU RECORD THIS!!!!

un-fucking-believable. you should take up another hobby before you burn in hell.

Get off the fence, man, how do you REALLY feel?

Lead guitar is great and so is the vocal, which has a bit of a Willie Nelson quality oddly enough. Bass gtr's OK. If it were mine I'd replace everything else with a raunchy acoustic gtr. Live drums would be good.

I dig your honesty. I wish people were that honest with me when something I posted has sucked...which I'm sure alot of it has.

But Jerry's a great guy and a good musician who is THE most helpful person here. I don't think he deserves the "burn in hell" part.

On the other hand, if you're playing Robert Johnson blues...Isn't burning in hell pretty much the goal.:D

listen, there are certain things you can do with a piece of art and certain things you can't.

what jerry did with this song comes close to blasphemy. i love robert johnson's music. i first heard him when i was 9 or 10 and his soul has been with me ever since.

when i hear something like this, an elevator version of something that originally was the deepest most individual expression of a tormented souls most intense emotions my heart breaks.

i feel personally insulted. like something of a timeless beauty was vandalized by brainless punks.

i'm sure jerry's an awesome guy but this just does not stand.

does one deserve to burn in hell for crimes against art? i think so.

i'm gonna listen to the original now over and over again. which sounds like this btw.

and yes, negative feedback already.

honesty gets rewarded they say. not in this life.

The comments about Robert Johnson's music sound very similar to elitist classical music fans who think that anything that isn't "authentic" to the original "correct" performance practice is some kind of horrible corruption.

I see no musical holy ground. Music performance is for personal expression, not showing untouchable reverence to the past. And I say that with great love for the work of many dead composers.

That's because you're acting like a fucking douchebag. There's a difference between leaving honest feedback and just being a dumbfuck. You can not like it and comment without spewing venom towards one of the nicest dudes in here. I really doubt Ido intentionally disrespected your delicate blues sensibilities.

Anyway, Ido the link won't work for me. I'll try again later.

you could have given your opinion without calling me a douchebag or a dumbfuck. i'm actually a pretty nice guy, with some sensibilities when it comes to music yes that's true :D

the reply i gave was impulsive but i stand by it. when i come across as an asshole that's just too bad.

He aint an asshole though.

I'm working on a Zep cover. I hope it sucks and makes you cry. :D

Hi, IDO!
Organ and piano sounds good.I like the clean guitar tone too.
Agreed about the drums, a "real" one will help a lot.

A shorter solo would work much better IMO.
Ah...And I don´t know the original song.

i haven't heard the original, but there is something markedly wrong with this tune Gerry. it lacks the emotional outpouring that characterizes a really good blues tune. technically everything is correct and the vox and guitars are well done, it's just that they seem emotionally lifeless. sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings. i think you missed the mark on this one.

I really like the idea posted earlier about replacing the "stiff" backing track with some raunchy acoustic guitar.

I enjoy the blues too, but it's not like Ido drew a comic of Robert Johnson with a bomb turban or anything.

faderbug - sorry that this version does not appeal to you. It is clear after reading through the posts that your opinion is shared by quite a few others.

XLR - thanks Tim, the main point of this was to record some blues guitar licks. I'm glad you liked them as that was the main focus of this exercise.

CIRO - thanks, Rami and others have offered their kind services - real drums etc - but I think I'll let this one go for now. I may do a live version with my friends Mike (bass) and Lee (drums) sometime when schedules align. Posting it..well....maybe I'll keep it for my own collection....

Nicole_Rose - thanks, like I said, your feelings about the performance are shared by quite a few so I appreciate the listen and the feedback.

mwthompson - "Robert Johnson with a bomb turban" - good one ;)
