Making Punch In Through Remote Connection

Hope this question isn't too confusing....

Is it possible to wire a 1/4" female jack to a couple connections on a female remote jack on the back of a reel to reel to make a punch in connection?

I have a 2340sx which can use a remote but has no punch in. Looking at how the 1/4" punch in is wired to the remote connections in a Tascam 234 I have I'm thinking it may be possible hook two wires somewhere through the remote jack to use as a punch in. Is this possible? Which connections? Record & ...? :)

I have schematics for the 2340 remote connection I could scan and post it here if needed.

I don't think so.
In this case it's not much about how "it is connected" but rather to what with :D
If I had or knew well details and/or schematics I maybe could tell for sure and why, but since I don't, don't take what I am saying as an answer, - it's just my guess, based on nothing :D

sooooo!!!!!!
since when!????
Or did I ask that already?
I thought you are still shopping for one. Or have I completely lost my memory? :o

:D Since two days ago. I picked one up off craigs list. Also came with 4 brand new boxes of Maxell tape :D
I decided I needed this machine back so I sold my 38.

I'll have to try and hunt down a remote, which probably wont be easy, but I thought it may be possible to trigger the record through the remote pins but... If the cap on the remote plug is removed though, the transports don't work I discovered yesterday.

Mike, what do you have? A 3340 or 3440? :)

cool! :cool::D

yeah, RC-120
I used to see them all the time on eBay, but nowhere to be found as it looks for the moment :( They also sometimes go for over hundred bucks . Search for "LOT" of stuff, sometimes people selling lot of accessories, or various things, like tapes, parts and crap like that and the remote may be there, but not listed in the title or even in description.

the remote dummy plug provides a jumper for the unit's control to operate.

If you have exact diagram of the romote you can build something yourself, but do not! experiment with it if you don't. Also it is not going to work as "Punch In/Out while the tape is running", (not possible as designed, that is :D )
You still have to press two buttons to engage recording first (rec+pause or rec+play), while! the selected channel(s)' record mode switch is in "ON" position and while the transport is in STOP mode. There's no othere way, unless I don't know something.
I'd say, don't lose your sleep over it. Use as it is, >>>>> and thus a you should :)

My machine is a-3340s.
I don't have any schematics, never really cared to get it simply because I had no serious problems with the machine - it's a bulldozer!
nor I have a remote, so.... you know.

Good idea Mike, about looking through the "lot" auctions. Thanks for the help too. I was just curious if you had the 33 as opposed to the 34(40) because the 33 is a similar beast to the 2340. I was thinking of getting one those as well for the 15ips. You must like it.

btw there is one RC-120 on eBay now if you really really want one, starting bid from $79 or something, grrrrrrrr, search for "teac RC-120"

oh, btw, heh heh
In case, if you ever will need to explain somebody why in the hell would you sell tascam 38 to buy teac a2340sx - GOOD LUCK :D:p:D

Well.... I understand. either bad luck or the 2340 sounds better. I've had bad luck now for 6 straight years since buying a broken a8, a digital workstarion then the 38. I decided to go with something tried and true. Plus tape is cheaper. I love the way this sounds. I've only had one 38 and none other to compare it to so..... there's really no way to prove anything from here. The ears are the only deciders.

This A2340sx is just a 4 track 1/4 recorder, right?(?)
My dad has one barely used. I might hit him up for borrowing that sometime soon!:D Oh yeah, the front of the machine has two headphone jacks on it, but for some reason you can only hear 2 tracks out of one and 2 tracks out of the other. What kind of splitter is used hear?..... Get it..... used "HEAR".... ok too early for bad jokes......

Steve, if you feel like wasting time, scan the schematics of the remote, send it to me or post here. Let's design and build one :D

I would definately do tht Aaron. You just miight like it. I just get the fattest acoustic guitar sound on this. :D It almost reminds me of tubes.

It was a quadrophonic recorder. That's why it's set up like that. Kind of like todays surround sound.

The guy I bought if from gave me some used tapes with his funk/soul band demos on it. The recordings sound great.

that link is rather disfunctional :cool::p

Back in the glory days of quad, they made quad headphones which had 2, 1/4" stereo plugs to plug into your deck. The cans had 2 speakers in each ear cup and usually oriented front to back, ( horizontally over each ear), so you ended up with a pretty funky quad effect right in the phones!
