Alesis' iO|26?
Looking to do home recordings in my basement, is this good for the application?

I recently bought the Alesis io14 to replace my Tascam US-122. I'm really happy with it. It took me a little bit to configure it correctly, but once I did, it was smooth sailing. My only negative is that I would like the pres to have more gain. If you want more info on the io26, check out the Pro Reviews section in the Harmony Central Forum. You'll get all the info you would ever need to make an informed decision. An Alesis rep actually visits it regularly and posts,

Juan

I have an io26 and I love the thing so far.

You don't mention your setup or needs but If you have what you need to go with it, you should be fine.

Good Luck :)

Is anyone running this unit on a dell laptop? I bought one (Alesis io26) and for the life of me I can't get it to run w/o dropping out every 3 seconds... apparently there is an issue with the Ricoh chipset used on dell laptops.

I actually have sent it back to Alesis as it was doing some funny things - but it appears when the unit is operating properly its a no go (like most other firewire devices) on dell laptops w/ the Ricoh firwire chipset. I'll give it another shot when it comes back I guess...

Anybody in a similar position?

I'm using and or was using the io26 with no problems on one of my Dell Laptops.

Running XP Pro sp2

You can read about it here:

http://acapella.harmony-central.com/forums/showpost.php?p=23654117&postcount=678

Also in that link is a whole ton of info on this great little device.

I have another Dell laptop that has built in firewire but I have not had a chance to try it yet.
Also, be very sure you are using the external power supply for the io26.

If you don't find what your looking for in that link, post questions here and I'll try to help as best as I can.

Good Luck.

Thanks - hopefuly I'll have my unit back in a week and give it another try. I've been through that thread on harmony-central and the one on Notebook review and I have a few concerns that it will never work!

I've downloaded the latency checker and it seems my DVD drive and wireless cause instability so I'm gonna try again when I get my io26 back and disable both of those... hopefully that works! I'd be interested to know if your io26 works on your dell laptop w/ Firewire... if you get a chance that would be great to know (as well as what firewire chipset it came with - likely RICOH)

Just for reference here's my unit specs:

Dell Inspiron 9400
Intel Core 2 duo 1.73 ghz x 2
2 gigs memory
RICOH firewire - 4 pin
ADS Tech firewire 6 pin express card (w/ TI Chipset)
Windows Vista Home Premium

Fingers crossed that it works - it has all the features I wanted! Its one of the only units that has inserts on each channel... come to think of it those didn't work either - could get my compressors to register sound but couldn't hear anything out of the unit. Has anyone had any issues using the inserts on their io26?

Thanks! I'll let you know how things go when it comes back!

Mike

I might be a little slow getting to things right now (in the middle of moving) but I won't forget about it.
I've been pretty curious about my other Dell w/ the built in firewire myself.

Well my replacement io26 just arrived... I'll give it a shot tonight and see. In the meantime I've set up my laptop as a dual boot with XP and have checked my system with the latency checker (it appears my DVD burner and wirelss cause some instability, so they are idabled on the XP side).

We'll see - I'll let you know if I get it working!

Well just as a quick update, checked it out last night and everything seems to be working just fine. Have it running at the setup listed above with no issues set to 128 for the buffer and all is rocking!

I'll have to put this to a real test this weekend!

So if any of you have read that these don't work with Dell laptops w/ RICOH chipsets it can be done!

I still need to test mine out on my other Dell, everything equipment wise is still all packed from the move.
I'm hoping to get to it this weekend.......:o

The only issue I have in that in Sonar it only lists the left channel for my output busses.... consequently I can't mix in stereo unless I used outputs 1 & 2 respectively for the left and right (seperate cables)... I can certainly live with that for now.

Do you have issues in cakewalk not getting the right side outputs (or stereo outputs for htat matter!)??

I never noticed anything like that in Cakewalk when I first got my io26, everything seemed to be as it should.
I soon discovered Reaper and I've not looked back to Cakewalk, it's Reaper for me.

Would you believe it was only the past 2 nights that I've finally started unpacking my gear...sorry :o
Hoping to get testing my other Dell laptop within the next few days now :)

I seems to have an issue that I can't get a stereo out without having system sounds enabled... with that on no stereo issues. I guess SONAR only sees the output as Left in ASIO mode. It lists stereo outs in WDM but I can't get it working at all (it also only recognizes it as a 1 in / 1 out device... Alesis has told me WDM is not reccomended in SONAR). With systems sounds enabled all is good.

Tried their new drivers (Jan 28th) - and I get nothign showing on the ASIO side now!

I'm not having too friendly a go with it - when it works its great but I've had to monkey about with it quite a bit! haha

anybody have any samples they did with the interface?

I'll see if I can put something together this week! No guarantees - depending on how my interface works for me. Can you believe I haven't really recorded anything worthwhile with this yet? (after having if for months) - Maybe this wil give me some motivation. I'll see if I can get some nice 18 watt tone in there!

I own an IO|14 and never had any problems with it.
Got it from musicstore.com for € 174 !!!!!!!!!:)

I've got my MIDI going through the interface as well.
I recorded a singer songwriter with it, using all 4 inputs.
Flawless!!

I work with Samplitude V10 and the interface is working perfect.
I'm running it on a Core2Quad Q6600, with 4 Gb RAM....:)
