We're talking about an Oranger Rockerverb 50 right? I owned a Marshall Valvestate and the Rockerverb shits all over it for tone. In fact the day my buddy picked it up we compared it with with VHT's, Bogners, Marshall's, Mesa's and a few others and it kicked the shit out of all of them for what he wanted. Also they are not $2800 new, where in the hell do you guys get these prices from. My friend bought his for $1800 brand new with the footswitch from Eddies guitars in St. Louis.

If you could post some sound clips of your buddies amp that would be great. All of the clips on Youtube sound like they are playing though Gorilla amps with car stereo speakers. I'm not sure if their amps suck or if they just don't know how to record.

Who gives a flying fart. Listen to the damn thing, it sounds incredible. It may not be built to the highest standards but we're also not talking about a 4 thousand dollar boutique tube amp, we're talking about a $1500 assembly line amp.

I've heard it, it doesn't sound bad, but I've definitely heard better. It's still a PC board amp without a tube rectifier and mediocre parts (outside the nice trannies). Under a grand, I'd be okay with it, but for a head, you're really getting up there in price. I dumped $500 on a Gibson GA-40, I'll take the Pepsi challenge compared to it. The same articulation and bloom just isn't there. Just one amp nerd's opinion on it though.

Sure, I'll have to try and get him to loan it to me for a session or two. Do you really expect the video and audio quality on youtube to be that good? Half the time the guys are using their camcorders mic to show off their amps, it's a joke. I also don't understand people saying it should cost under a grand because it's a pcb amp. Most assembly line amps these days are pcb and most anything in that category cost over a grand. My Boogie is pcb, Marshall's are pcb and so on, none of them are less than a grand. Hell my 30 watt Vox was nearly a grand and it's made in China.

The orange stuff may not be built the way it used to be, but it still sounds great. What I would be the most concerned with is how it will fit for the person using it. Ornage amps have a distinct sound. They are really kind of a one trick pony, but the one trick it does sounds pretty damned good. Also, I would never even dream of placing the Orange stuff in the same category as a Marshall Valvestate. The Orange truly eats a valvestate for lunch even with bad tubes in it:D

i mean, there's a lot more bang for the buck out there, if that interests you....

look at the Mesa Stilletto.

check a bogner shiva.

how about a THD Flexi-50?

lots of good stuff out there, a lot cheaper than 2800 bucks!

Yeah the Orange sounds good, BUT GONZO IS RIGHT!!

For a couple thousand bucks, if I had that kind of $$$$$$ I would NOT be looking at Orange.....

But why? If it's the tone you're looking for I think the Oranges are well worth the money, if it's the tone you're looking for. I've heard and used this amp and a lot of other amps as well and I honestly loved this amp. I think it hold's its own against anything else in the 2 grand and under price range. What's wrong with Orange? I know a lot of guitarists who have a lot of respect for the company and I'm getting the total opposite feeling on this website, as if there's something morbidly wrong with Orange. So explain why you wouldn't drop $1800 on a rockerverb 50.

Absolutely, positively... AGREED!!!

I used to think Marshall and Fender were the best amps... when I didn't know shit about amps.

Now that I've got 4 decades of playing under my belt, I've gravitated toward amps like Orange, Vox and Rivera.

Been playin' pretty long too. I think we should stay away from this "better, best " crap/
It's a classic Ford/Chevy battle. We all like different stuff, lucky they make different stuff or we'd all be playin Peavey 212's (not that there's anything wrong with that)

You know, since I'm not a player and don't have a specific tone I like I'm the type that likes something about every quality amp out there. I'd take everything from and Epi Valve Jr. to a Divided by 13 to a tricked out Diezel VH4. I'm greedy.

Right on, Big Kenny!

If anyone's interested, I've spent a little time playing my Les Paul again (I was abducted by aliens and made to play bass in a C&W band for the last couple of years) and I played it through my amp of choice:

1963 Sears Silvertone Twin Twelve. I bought it from the original owner in 1974 for $40.

But again, maybe you like something else.

this amp is killer.. I love the orange tone. I just picked up a rocker 30 combo and it is the best tone i've ever gotten in my life.. I've played mesa's, marshall's, fender's.. orange takes the cake.. you have to try it out for yourself first though.. i couldn't image dropping 1500 with out trying it out first.. but if you're looking for that amazing orange crunch then do it.. if you don't even know what that is reserch.. find out if any bands you like use orange.. I know i was introduced to orange when i was trying to figure out how omar from at the drive in (mars volta now) got his incredible sound.. yup orange.. been my dream tone ever since

If i had unlimited budjet orange would still be in the running.. i'd love to get an AD140 with a matching orange cab.. FUCKING BEAUTIFUL

but if i had an unlimited budjet i'd have to look into green, hiwatt and vox as well.

Hey, there's nothing wrong with Fender amps; a Fender is just a totally different animal from an Orange amp. My 1964 blackface Deluxe Reverb is the perfect match for my old Strat and the way I play. DSFDF.

this is true.. you will likely never hear a better clean tone outta any amp that's not a fender.. the twin is an amp that i will own one of these days..

Orange is a great brand, and it has a nice unique tone, but for the money, I'd personally prefer a Budda SuperDrive which goes for 600 less for a 45 watt

But we're talking used here...I would jump on that Orange no questions asked.

Great let's hear some clips of your awesome Orange tone.

Some of my favorite bands(mars volta, jimmy eat world) among many other bigger bands that could use idk..any 4000 dollar amp they'd like...use Orange. That says something. I also, as someone stated before, used to think marshall were the best...but i barely knew crap. Now i love orange and mesa...among other amps. If i had the money, i undoubtedly would go orange.

best bet when buying ANY equipment that your spending a wedge on and want to last....

PLAY THE BASTARD THING!!!!!!!

it's the only way you're gonna know if it's right for you....

although I did it myself when i bought my behringer (I play bass) the other option was the line 6 version for nearly £100 more.... when i played on the line 6 version (after i'd bought it) I crapped myself cause it didn't sound much different... yes it did have all the fancy effects and stuff but i already had a bass pod.... which i use one setting on so will be going shortly....

The only time you buy an amp or guitar with out trying is if it's increadibly rare / hard to get hold of, something you've had in the past so know what it should sound like (still not guaranteed mind...) or if it's dirt cheap.... I bought a brand new base for £70... which apparently retails £175.... it probably wont get used much but i've found unless your spending £800+ on an instrument there isn't a huge variation.... if your planning to spend a wedge... possibly more important for second hand.... CHECK IT OUT!!! you have no idea what the previous owners done to it....

and just to add to the argument about which is better.... IT DEPENDS ON WHAT AND HOW YOU PLAY ON WHAT IS GOOD!!!... though i dream of an original hand built AC30.... mmm.... need some alone time now....

i'll try and get some clips one of these days.. love my amp.. it's a dream with my tele..

but yeah dude try one out first.. especially something like orange where it has such a unique tone.. i find usually with amps like that you'll either love it or hate it..

Have you ever heard one in person? You mentioned youtube which is probably the worst place in the world to base your judgement on a piece of equipment. I owned an AC30 which I loved the sound of, then I heard and used an Orange AD30 for a while(which is an AC30 knockoff)and it sounded so much better than my AC30.
