Mesa....

Of the ones I have used myself.....most of which are on your list.....

If you could compare your list to a list of the brands with the highest profit margin for dealers, the two lists would be almost identical.

The dealers dont like "the best" amps because they cant get volume discounts or other "deals" on the back end to make it worth their while to sell "the best" brands. If you want to find "the best" you really have to go outside the MF/GC box and do your homework and shop around outside the mainstream.

This is the main point im trying to teach him. He learns his gear from MF and GC. Im not knocking him or anything like that, Im going to show him this once the poll closes

Voted Other. Lots of great amps out there.

My preferences for electric guitar amps:

Matchless
Bogner
Carr
Fender (Black Face)
Vox (AC-30 top boost original)
Fender (Tweed)
Ampeg (Fliptop)

Voted other... How come Framus, and Diezel (to be modern), or Magnatone (to be vintage) aren't on the list? There's a shitload of great amps out there depending on what they are being used for...

I've only been really happy with rack stuff..Right now I'm using a Marshall JMP-1 preamp with a Peavey classic 50/50 power amp (along with a BBE Sonic maximizer and an old Tapco 31 Band EQ).

I've got Tung Sol 12AX7s in the Marshall, and All JJs in the Peavey, 8 EL84s, 2 12AX7, and 2 12AT7s...

I'm alot more satisified with this set up, then I was with the last few amps I've had, like a Marshall JCM 900 2100 head, Peavey Valve King head, or the Line 6 combo.

Years ago I used to use a BBE preamp with a 300 Watt Fender Stereo Valve Emulation power amp..All solid state but it sounded pretty damn good. Not all solid state stuff is complete crap.

It seems to be true in my mind, but something tells me that if you can't convince him, a bunch of fools writing on a forum aren't going to help much either, even if we did all pick different options :D

I picked Fender because they suit my style :p

If you're going based just on popularity, probably either Line 6 (thanks to the Spyder II) or Marshall (thanks to the MGs). I personally prefer Peavey, which is what I use.

i'm an orange man.. although I love hiwatt and fender almost as equally..

Yep, Orange makes killer amps.

Gotta love some of them Rivera amps, too.

A bit pricey, but nice tone if you can afford it.

1966 JMI AC30 for guitar
1971 FENDER BASSMAN for bass

a couple of practice amps for fun - VOX PATHFINDER and my daughters' HIWATT.

Buy a Boogie - live happily ever after.

Problem is, it depends on the guitar(s) you're using and what you're playing.

For example, a Boogie and a Les Paul probably isn't going to get you the kind of sound that you would want in a classic country band where you're playing Albert Lee licks all night.

For that, I would get me a Telecaster through a black-face Fender Pro Reverb (or Twin in a really big room) and a Boss Compressor.

So there is no 'best' - there is only 'really good for doing [insert situation here]"

....but if you matched up an AC30 and a Casino - woooooo mamma! :D Now that is something to behold!

Aww damn, no one plays Epiphones or Randalls hahaha??

I specifically picked amps from MF, except Orange, only cause the dude knew it already.

Now you can all go to sleep knowing you helped some guy learn some stuff...or something.

The best part is, when someone does a search and finds this great thread, they too may learn something, but most likely not. Well, thay will at least get more proof that threads with polls in them generally suck.
