Solved Control surface

I want to be able to mix without using my mouse/keyboard. What's a good, and very basic control surface I can use to control volume and panning? I'd like to be able to automate volume and panning while the song is playing (ie: draw pan/volume envelopes) and not have to use my mouse.

I record using Reaper.

Any suggestions?

I have 0 experience with control surfaces and don't know much about them. Do they use MIDI?

Behringer BCF2000, i think it uses midi, and connects via usb.

EDIT: Just checked. It is supported by reaper :D
 
I'm a Mackie MCU user...quite a bit more pricey but very feature rich. Not sure what your budget is but it's certainly worth a look.

The Mackie does look really good. I'd love it over the behringer, but my budget simply wont stretch that far. :(

I suspect the same of many people here. We'd rather sort the acoustics and get the best mics, pres, converters, interfaces, pcs, software, FX, monitors, headphones etc. well before we think about getting a really good control surface. That is my thoughts anyway. :cool:

My sentiments exactly.

Id rather get 8 BCF's than one MCU =]

In the end, a control surface does nothing to my sound so I dont really care how expenive it looks or how it works.

I simply wish tascam still made their huge control surface!

Me too. The Tascam was exactly what i wanted, but they discontinued it :( Actually, i think 16 channels would be enough. I wish someone would make one.
