Nice tune, very Rnb` "Beatwise" dident see that comming when hearing the intro.

Is that some beethoven in there:cool:

The mix sounds good to me, maybe the drums could come up a bit, specially the low end:)

Britt has a great voice.

My .02

I would round Britt's vocal by mixing a front and center track of her vocal along with 2 copy tracks of her vocal at a lesser volume panned right and left to whatever volume level percentage and degree of panning sounds best to your ears.

I'm not crazy about the drum beats.......sorry.

I might also consider keeping the piano 25% to the left side and the bass to 15% to the right as a starting point, but that's just speculation on my part without actually having individual tracks to mix and mess around with.

The music came in already mixed from that guy. All I did was record the vocal and put it together.

Just double track the vocal. Brian Wilson always does that :cool: Also try a "shimmer" track, using the ol' Motown exciting compressor technique. If you have a multiband with a mix control, just crush the "de-ess" band, and add lots of makeup gain, and mix to taste.

Bass is hitting a little hard.
 
Her vocal and the keys sound great-maybe a touch of effects on the vocal would work nicely, the beats just don't seem to work for the song-just my opinion anyway...
 
I love the tone of Brit's voice - top 40 stuff absolutely. This is a very cool song.

She needs to watch her pitch in spots. Either she's not sure about the note or is low on breath, not sure which. It's minor and I usually don't dwell on it, but this is a very nice piece and I'm aiming high to match the quality of the voice and the writing.

I'm not diggin the drums much but they get you by....

I think the recording quality is very good, even the drums which I don't like have a nice tone. The vocals seem compressed in a nice way - how?

Thanks all the same but it's not an original idea.

I took a cue from listening enough to discern how Seals & Crofts vocals sat in the mix, and learned that most of the credit due was credit due to Louie Shelton and his mixing skills.

At this stage you are dealing with a single vocal performance, but I think you can apply some of the same tricks to make Britt's vocal stand out.

Here's a link to a rerecorded version of Resist that Joc recently sent me to remix and add to.

I added a bass guitar track (not all too good), but what I did do was to take Joc's two vocal tracks and pan them this way....

Main Vocal.....orginal and copied track
One strong right volume and one weak left volume track.

2nd Vocal....original and copied tracks
One strong left and one weak right volume track.

I'm not sure I explained that clearly.....:D

Either you or he needs to retrack the drums, Arvo. The tune is great, but the drums take it down a notch or two. They sound like a cheap keyboard drum track. I should know: I use my Yamaha keyboard for my scratch drum tracks. :eek:
 
Some darker reverb & haunting & ominousness & you've a new replacement for Portishead.
Very, very bloody, well bloody!
Bruised & wounded vox almost perfect - some pitchiness but that's attractive in its own way.
The beats are fine - maybe a little more seraration would have been nice and some movement forward'n' back in the sound stage occasionally - or even some dub treatment on them but at present THEY WORK.

To me, this was most evident when she is copying the melody of the Beethoven part. I'd be inclined to not sing in unison with the piano, but rather sing a straight note. Whatever the first note is, on "you" just sing the rest of the line at the same pitch. You'd have to try it to see if it works. Singing in unison with such a recognizable riff just seems a bit...cheesy, I guess. Sorry.

Otherwise, I think the song sounds great. Her voice is great. I, also, don't care for the sound of the drums, but I get the style and what they are going for. It's just not my cup of tea.
