Howdy boys,

I was just listening the other day to the song "Close to You."

And I just can't get over how amazing the production is. Does anyone know how I can get my stuff to sound as AMAZING as the Carpenters were able to on that song?

I especially like the part where the chorus kicks in and you hear that huge wall of sound going "AHHHHH AHHHHHH ... Close to you."

Any tips?

Thanks in advance Sweeties!

well that's the real deal chorusing... rather than an effect they litteraly sang every instance no trickery here... for it to work right you need to be able to sing your line repeatedly without any perceptable differences... the unperceptable differences do all the work...

Hang mic over bathroom stall wall, stick your finger down your throat and hurl. Triple track and pan accordingly. :D

+1

If you are realy serious about getting this sound, Ches...I mean...Daisy, you are going to have to go the whole hog. Which I'm afraid means you are going to have to lose some weight. You may not want to hear it, but that's the way it is. Just remember that you are just too fat, and as soon as you get into that mindset, and start chucking your guts up after every meal and snack, the sooner you'll be onto a winning Karen Carpenter sound.

Hi Daisy,

Could you please come up with something that has some real comedic value? Chessrock was much more original. This Daisy thing is stupid and old already.

Thanks

For anyone that really wants to know… (eh, I wonder if anyone that really wants to know will get this far into the thread.) :p

Well anyway…

Vocal tracks were recorded with Dolby Type-A noise reduction (Model A301), but not decoded on playback. This gives the bright airy sound. After this technique was discovered by accident in the late 60’s it became fairly popular with some producers for sweet sounding background vocals. (This is all way back before music died and all that). ;)

Of course "Sweet" is kinda outdated since most people that felt good inside when listening to Carpenter’s songs are dead… and the survivors are so traumatized from living in our society all they can think about is poop.

Excuse me, where's the bathroom?

You can't. Just give it up, it's not possible. Go to a recording studio. What the hell do you think they are there for?

I'm gonna get lame points around here for saying it but I love the Carpenters recordings. The production quality and her singing skill cut through the pop-schmaltz barrier. Man, listen to her, untouched by autotune.

Seriously... I agree. With Karen it was from the heart and I’ve always used the Carpenters as examples of how to produce an album.

Even for people that don’t like the type of music, the production techniques translate well to other genres.

:)

I agree with XLR and Beck

Their albums were examples of how crystal clear recordings can be.

Bette Midler once commented that Karen was so clean she squeeked.

`nuff said!

I like the ending to their Merry Christmas, Darling: which has fanastic harmonies.

Are you sure she didn't mean that karen was so rediculously wholesome?
