Too Pretty for Porn

uh, not sure which version i'm listening to, but here goes:

love the intro guitars - tone is pretty gnarly, i can see how you didn't like it when you decreased the distortion

i gotta have more bass, baby. just a hair up, then I think the comments about the vocals being a tad hot and out front would be taken care of. I'm a big fan of the BGVs on this one...great blend, tucked in just right behind LV.

great guitar solo break. all instruments tucked in nicely behind the solo. nice job there!

nice change up on the ending...! good vocals my friend.

Fuck! I'm an idiot. I have to share this with you guys.

I didn't mention anything about the drum mix, because I was convinced it was my imagination. But sure enough, I'm stupid.

I had un-plugged a few mics last week end, because we were doing Karoake with a bunch of people. So, I re-plugged everything, tested the mics (or so I thought), etc.....

To make a long story short, the whole time I was mixing the tune, I could swear that one overhead was brighter than the other...I convinced myself it's just because one is picking up more hi hat or whatever....Turns out, I had my snare mic plugged into the Left OV channel and vice versa. So, it runs out that when I thought I was listening to my 2 overheads, I was actually listening to one overhead and the snare mic. And when I thought I was soloing the snare, I was soloing the other overhead.

It actually made for an intersting drum sound, but it was bugging the hell out of me....NOW I figured it out.

....Got to re-do the drums now.

I friggin' hate that! What usually happens to me is I'll have the best take evar! a keeper...then i'll realize I forgot to hit the fantom power on the first 4 inputs (firepod) what a noob!

Me three! That's actually what piqued my interest in this - I thought "what the hell could this song be about?"

Regarding the drum mic f-up. I recently recorded two songs with the kick and bottom snare mic flipped. Confused the hell out of me. In my head I started to accept that the snare bottom mic just picked up a lot of kick. (was harder to justify the other, but I just gave up) However, in my case I didn't need to redo, cuz there was no phantom power need for either of them, and they were both at a decent level. I just needed to relabel the files and tracks. Had me confused for quite some time though.

Anyway, the song sounds great!

Thanx alot, Andy. I was thinking of just reversing the channels, but one overhead input had alot more gain on it (since it was supposed to be my snare channel ). I ended up re-tracking just to not always have it in the back of my mind.

Don't feel bad, Rami. You are one of the most talented people I've ever known. Hell, to this day I STILL haven't figured out the whole drum micing thing. I've put mic after mic after mic in many different combinations over my SR-16 and it STILL makes no difference! Now I've got a huge pile of mics in the closet and an empty wallet...

Thanx alot, brother. Jeff, it took me a while to get drum miking down. And I still do the occasional track that sounds like shit because I didn't pay attention to detail. It's a non-stop learning process. You should keep at it, your tunes are good. You should sit back one day and just play your whole catalogue of tunes. You'll be surprised at how good the tunes you haven't heard in a while are.

Nice job and cool tune. I don't think you need de-essing but the vocals do seem a touch bright. The bass could come out a little more. Not sure if you just need to turn it up a touch or compress more for higher RMS.

Snare too loud during the choppy beat and not loud enough during the straight chorus parts???

Well, no, I actually can't download ANY MP3 at work...

I agree the snare needs more arse in the straight sections... Your usual cleanliness and ability is as evident as ever... Maybe a smidge of De-ess to kill a little of the very mild sibilance on "She's"... The guitar solo in the mid 2:30s ran on the flat side of the pitch a bit.... No other nits at all, except your accent on "Porrhn..." heh heh... Bon sez this is her favorite of yours

I have your solo for Winter I just have to finish mixing it; after Swannanoa I got home and completely gutted my studio. Only just got it fully back online... Randy's gonna kill me... I have a thing I'm not allowed to share yet, the guy has not given me permission to share it, but I did a rhythm section for a guy... Got my drums dialed in NICE. I've been doing a lot of hired gun studio playing too, so I've really not had a lot of time to do my own thang..
