hi there.
im building a new home studio.
my question is regarding to the main desk.
i am a pianist and working a lot with the midi conrolller piano, 6 octaves, if i'd do a drawer under the table the keyboard will be too low and hard to play, if i put it over it will be too high.
put it on the side... i like to watch the screen and be infornt ot the computer while playing... im recording myself mostly, what would you suggest?
should i use a carpenter or buy a ready one? is there some solution for this?
thank you.

I have been thinking on a similiar situation, i want to build a desk that will hold up monitors out of the way, allow me to have the midi controller (88 keys) and the computer keyboard all together. Here is what i am working on:

1. Wireless keyboard and mouse- can;t say how nice this is, wespecially when you are recording yourself. I bring these with me behind the drumset when needed and can start and stop recordings for avarious takes easily. Same works when you want to move the keyboard/mouse out of the way to play the controller.

2. Dual LCD monitors- these are much cheaper these days, and i love the two monitor setup. I picked up an arm for one. My plan is to build the desk, put one of the monitors on the arm, then i can put the midi controller to the side at 90 degrees to the desk surface, and sort of pull out and turn the monitor so it faces me as i am 90 degrees to the desk. If it works, i can also roate the monitor to face the drumset (behind the controller) as well.

Hope that is helpful.

not sure if this would help, but i bought a table top, legs, and a keyboard drawer from ikea for around $65.

i have my desk chair set low, and their is enough room to get my legs under there no problem.

the only thing i dont like about it thus far is my monitors, i have one on a shoe box and a bunch of magazines, and the other on a wooden box, and they are still a bit too low, so i must make something for those too.

anyways, here is what i got going, to the bottom of the table is about 28", the top is a 29". i have no problem playing the keys at all, but you may if you spend hours playing. i dont know because i dont spend that much time using it because im a guitar player.
