I would like to bypass by D8B when I record (have a new DAW with Nuendo installed).

I have Neve, API and A-Design preamps now.

My I-O to the DAW is via ADAT lightpipe.

What exist today that can get my mic signal from the preamp to the DAW.

This is a new area to me and I am sure some of you folks do this to bypass a mixer or especially if your doing it ITB.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

You need a converter with adat output. MANY to choose from.

Sorry - wasn't clear enough.

I understand that - my question is which specific (brand) device is sonically the best for doing this?

A thousand to three thousand.

I would suggest looking at the Mytek or Apogees then. They are the best bet in that range. You might try asking this over at gearslutz, but, as I said, it's a huge can of worms...........

You didn't say how many channels, or if you need outputs too. That ma\y change things a bit.

I tried Gearslutz but no one answered.

I thank you for your help.

Basically I have 8 channels of preamps.

They have XLR outputs. I need to get the signal from their output (XLR) into an ADAT lightpipe format.

I would also give consideration to the Lynx Aurora line. More affordable than the other options, but still offers excellent quality with excellent features. If you can add an Apogee big ben clock they will soundeven better:)

Wouldn't that put them to all most as expensive as the Apogees anyway? They did some blind tests at Gearslutz, and I thought the Auroroa's were a definite step down from the Mytek, Apogee, & Lavry's...........

Actually, even with a Big Ben, The Aurora's are still much cheaper than Apogee. With out the Big Ben they are half as much. You might also be surprised at how many people still find an improvement in even the Apogee cvonverters when a Big Ben is added. I agree wioth you on the Aurora as far as quality goes, but most people I talk to find it a tossup when the Big Ben is added.

Wouldn't adding a Big Ben to a Apogee be redundant? There is a great thread over at GS that Dan Lavry talks about external clocking. I tend to agree with him.........;)

I agree that it does sound redundant. I know a lot of people who swear by it though. I do understand that it is all very subjective and it is really hard to do a true A/B comparison. In either event, I personally like the Aurora's, and with the Big Ben find them on par with the others mentioned. That may just be me though:)

(and no, I am not an Aurora owner)
