Here's my spin on The Clash's vintage punk classic "Clash City Rockers".

http://www.soundclick.com/util/getplayer.m3u?id=5789830&q=hi

Everyone knows The Clash for "Rock the Casbah", but they had several awesome songs and albums way before that one, and they were hands-down the best and most credible band to come out of the Brit punk movement.

Any comments/critiques on the mix or performance are welcome and appreciated.

Thanks,
Greg

Nice!

I'd just work on the reverb - get rid of the "metallic" sound. And take a bit off the highs, as they are a tad harsh.

Good job!

Okay thanks. The highs across the mix, or the highs in a particular track? And the reverb on the guitar, or overall?

Link aint workin for me, and Id love to hear this, as it's one of my favorite Clash song. You mind giving a link to your soundclik the song is on and not the song directly? maybe that would work.

Nevermind it's playin

Really good background vocals, you should work on your British accent thou :p

Allover I enjoyed it a lot, You did it justice. Good job on the solo.

I don't know the original, but everything here sounds pretty damn good.
The reverb seems a bit much to me on the guitars, but that might be intentional to capture the feel of the original. It does make it sound pretty old school.

Nice job.

Fuck british accents. I'm an American dammit! :D

Thanks man. I don't know how many people in here know the song, but I knew you would. ;)

Thanks a lot bro. Yeah the reverb is intended to mimic the original. I don't normally do thick reverb to one side like that. :o

It's been a LONG time since I heard the original of this...but if I remember correctly, pretty good rendition. I think you nailed a nice, vintage sound. Good performance all around dude...sounds pretty fine. :D:cool:

Thanks Dogman. :)

Fantastic. Now lets hear London Calling, Death or Glory, Spanish Bombs and Rudy Can't Fail.

Nevermind the reverb comment. I think it's just the guitar, and you said it's pretty close to the original. The highs are across the whole mix, but prominently in the vox and cymbals. Not terrible, just a tad bit much IMHO. Like I said, great work! :D

Lol. Thanks. "Death or Glory" is a good one, but I don't think I can pull off those other ones. Don't you have any requests that aren't from the "London calling" album? :p

Thanks for the input. I put up another mix with the highs slightly rolled off in that same link if you wanna try again.

Rock On.................
Thanks. :)

Sounds great!

I think part of it is I have been listening to acoustic music all morning - may have swayed the ears a bit..............

Lol. Maybe. I like this newer mix better anyway, so thanks for the feedback. :)

White riot????

White riot????

Another good one. I don't think the liberals in here would get it though and I'd be labeled a racist. :p

I am currently working on "White Man in Hammersmith Palais", but don't hold your breath for it. ;)

All the tones are great I think, the levels sound good. . .

I wonder why you even ask about what we think sometimes. . . You know you're gonna hear 95% of us say it's awesome. And the other 5% just has crappy speakers :p

Just jokin though, criticism's always good.

This passes my "would I believe it if I heard it on the radio?" test.

Two thumbs up.

Yeah I do want to know what yall think. Everyone likes compliments, but I've learned a ton from this site by posting my cover songs. I had some trouble with an Iggy song I did a few weeks ago and the suggestions in here helped me out bigtime. On this song here, NL5 had an issue with the original mix I posted, and I went back and listened with his comments in mind and I agreed, so I fixed it. That's why I'm here, and I appreciate anyone and everyone's input. :)

This had me dancing around in my control room. Excellent. :D :)

You've inspired me to record a version of "In a Rut" by The Ruts. ;)
