Since I've started re-listening to vinyl I find myself buying classic records now I never thought of buying on CD. And reloving every minute of the record. It's something in the brain.

For anyone interested Sundazed http://sundazed.com/ has reissued alot of the classics from thier original anolog sources. I've got the Dylan "another side". Sounds fantastic. Oh also they reissued them in thier original mono mixes!

Last year I bought several Dylan vinyls from Sundazed. Amazing is all I can say!

I bought a cheap sony turntable about a year ago and listening to stuff again myself. This week its been George Benson. Last week Vanilla fudge. Yes I know one end to the other.
I have been getting alot of my stuff at antiqe shop here in town that has a bunch of booths that people rent out to sell their old junk. It has been a great place to find all kinds of music to listen to. And at a buck a piece you cant beat the price. Stuff I wouldnt buy 20 or 25 years ago cause I wasnt sure I would like now is cheap and fun to try.
And the most important thing about the stuff I have been getting is it just sound right Um maybe its that Analog thing

Steve, that the whole "issue" was (still is) bending my mind, since some years ago first with Reel-to-reel, then vinyl and then actually with cassette deck (in the system from 70s that I've re-collected ) I sort of got into process of re-learning how to listen the music again and actually enjoy the process. It's like a ritual, sort of

It's like the difference between watching a movie made on film or digital. I personally prefer that ethereal quality of film.

Yeah Herm, the antique shops are great. I've been visting them too.

It's just funny because I LOVE CCR but I've never had any interest in buying a CD but I had to search for it on vinyl. Same with Aerosmith never had any interest in buying thier CDs but have been searching for thier records on vinyl.

One thing about DVD's too. I love them for thier convienence and extra features but I don't know why they don't balance the sound on them.
I need to hold the volume control in my hand to turn up the dialogue and turn down the music. They blast you out of your chair.

Seems like what I have to do while listening to any CD in the past 10 years. I don't think anyone knows how to REALLY master/produce music on compact disc, let alone DVD.

Speaking of the unbalanced sounds. I'm just guessing, but it could be set up for the surround sound system. So when it's played in stereo you get that unbalanced thing going on. I could be wrong though...

I guess you don't have the same problem then. I don't think it's set up for surround but I'll double check it.

I love good dynamics on a DVD, but I feel there is a tendency for the mixes to ride higher than strictly necessary during loud passages. The ability to manipulate sound effects in 5.1 is resulting in too much effects and noise for the sake of it.

Very few films have the natural-feeling balance between loud and normal of, say, the Telarc '1812 Overture', where the loudness of the shots seem to 'grow' naturally out of the existing volume of the orchestra.

They will wallop your ears and your sub, but are louder because of what they are, not because they are cranked after the fact. At least that is the impression the mix gives.

Not everyone knows about the 1812 or Telarc. The 1812 uses field pieces (canons) and is known to throw turntable needles out of the groove. I've taken a photo of part of my copy of the Telarc 1812. Notice the normal groove spacing and then where the cannons are....

Telarc used only 3 omni mics and spent a lot of time on placement. I won't hold their Soundstream against them
