Well, I'm not new to cakewalk nor recording, just midi. I've read through a lot of the chapters on midi and I can't seem to find what I need.

Maybe point me in the right direction so I know where to look in the manual. I'm having two issues:

1. I can only paint midi notes, I cant get my keyboard to play them.
2. I can't get the midi track to play. It starts to play then suddenly stops. (like a drop out would)

Heres a pic of my track view:

I'm using the TTS-1 softsynth.

I get sound when I click the keys in the piano roll, and I can even paint the notes. But when I play back it will start for a second then stop.

The keyboard is connected via midi out to the layla 3G's in but I cant get it to trigger anything.

Try raising your midi playback buffer. Options > Global > Midi. I would try 500 ms, and if that doesn't work, go to 1000.

I tried that. It was set to 500, I went up to 1000 and nothing, I went all the way up to 9000 experimenting and it played about 10 seconds and quit. Something else must be up, just not sure what.

Also, I have to push play 2-4 times for playback to start.

I've never had any issues like this with 24 track audio.

Okay, Problem was when I installed the TTS-1, Sonar reverted back to 4.0. Once I reinstalled the updates the midi started playing back fine.

I still can't get my keyboard to trigger any notes.

Any Ideas?

Hey I posted a response that might help you over in the recording techniques-to sum it up make sure you are triggering through your sound card first if it has a mixer-if not make sure your keyboard is set to transmit on channel one(or turn local off). Next refer to the post for options in Sonar.

Also your screen shot looks like you set up two audio tracks?

Try right click insert Dxi synth and see if that works, it will set the two tracks for you (except channel 10 would have to be selected for the TTS)--> I don't think you can use it the way you are trying-->but I could be wrong.

Second you could change the input on channel 2 to match the output on channel one--> though it seems you are trying to trigger midi via audio input (not possible).

Thats one audio and one midi track. I can paint/brush notes via the piano roll fine. Playback and everything is good.

I'm having an issue with getting the keyboard to trigger the midi notes.

I downloaded a program called midiox and it seems as if the keyboard isn't sending a signal. I originally thought I was setting something up in Sonar wrong, but i think the Keyboard is the problem.

I have send on channel one, and local turned off. Maybe the MIDI on the board or on my Layla is bad.

Depending on your hardware synth you may need to enable MIDI output somewhere in its menus. And this may sound obvious, but make sure the "out" on the keyboard is connected to the "in" on the PC.
