Well maybe it has.......

Anyway....

I'm looking to buy some new monitors (probably the KRK RP6 or Event ALP5's), but I'm not sure yet.

I currently monitor through my interface (Firepod) through some junky modified home-stereo speakers. I want to continue to monitor through the Firepod, but what do I need to do to be able to listen to MP3's I have on my computer through the monitors? I'm computer dumb, so I can't figure it out. I guess I'm wondering how to route the computers soundcard duties to the Firepod?

Do I even want to do that?

Dude, my firepod automaticly did that...I don't have monitors attached to that particular computer, but when I bought the firepod, and installed it, I belive it asked something about sending the audio to it, and I said yes, so only use it....with phones, but that's all I use there. (It's my recording pc...)

I'm not home right now to look at anything, but will be tomorrow...

Dammit. So any old MP3 on your computer is automatically routed to the Firepod instead of crappy desktop speakers? Thats what I want.

yeah, my firepod handles all audio duties on my computer, including playback of my MP3s and movies and what not. it should function just as your regular sound card.

Okay so how do I make mine do that?

go to Control Panel, then Sounds and Audio Devices, then go to the Audio tab, and the default device for sound playback should be set to FIREPOD Output 1/2

that's how mine is...i dunno, mine always functioned as my sound card i never knew it any other way hehe. try and see if it works, if not we can figger it out eventually.

The Firepod isn't even on my list under the audio tab.

what the heck....then how do you record with it? are you sure all the drivers are installed and its plugged in and everything?

i think mine set the Firepod as my default audio device as soon as i ran the install disc.

so are you saying that right now, you can't hear anything from the computer coming out of the firepod?

I can only monitor things I record into Cubase. If I open a project, I can monitor through the Firepod. If I just want to play an MP3, movie, etc on the computer, it only comes through the desktop speakers.

thats freakin weird...you did install it as stated in the destruction manual right? load the install disc follow the prompts blah blah blah?

so if you go to Control Panel, System, Hardware tab, then click Device Manager, does it show the Firepod anywhere under the Sound, Video and Game Controllers list?

actually on mine, when i go to Device Manager, it has a thing that says "61883 Device Class" and the Firepod is listed under that...

i'm kinda computer dumb too, so i really don't understand why your sound doesnt play thru the Firepod. maybe you have to disable your stock soundcard somehow? uninstall the driver for it?

I installed it the way it said to install it. It works great for recording/monitoring purposes. If I follow that menu you just outlined, the Firepod is there. I just can't get it to play anything other than whats in cubase. MP3's and internet porn clips all come through the regular PC speakers.

somebody help? i guess somehow you have to disable your stock sound card, because on my computer, the stock sound card doesn't even show up on the "Sound Playback" list, just the Firepod.

Yeah my stock soundcard is in that list, but not the Firepod.

do you know what version of the driver/firmware you have? go back to the Device Manager, then Sound, then double click wherever it says Firepod, then check the Driver tab. maybe you need to update? the latest version i think is 2.14.25

Okay I figured it out. I disabled the stock soundcard, and selected "Modem #1 line playback"........whatever the fuck that means. Now MP3's are playing through the firepod. Should I still try to find an update? I'm gonna test some internet porn real quick. :p

sweeeet. it's up to you if you want to update, it wouldn't hurt, but if everything's running smooth for you right now, you might not want to bother.

so how's that internet pr0n sounding?

I did the update so now I can piggyback another Firepod if I want to. Sounds like a good excuse to buy another one. :p

Everything seems to be working fine. Thanks for your help.:)

So..............now which monitors should I buy? :)
