Acoustic in stereo

Currently I use a solo Sm57 to record my basic acoustic stuff. I am wondering whether it would sound better recorded in stereo with another dynamic mic I have or whether it isn't worth the bother.

Anything and everything is worth the bother - you never know if something is going to work until you try it - especially with instrument mic'ing, since good results can be had on acoustic with dynamics, condensers, ribbons, tin-cans, horns attached to needles recording onto wax cylinder... name it, you can probably get an at least somewhat decent sound out of it.

Try placing one mic facing directly toward the 12th fret, and then try out varying distances. For the second mic, maybe try mic'ing up the area around the bridge of the guitar, to get some more high-end in there.

Just a couple ideas.

That's all i needed to know, whether it would be worth the extra 25 bucks for another stand, thanks.

There are things you can do to a mono track (or record it twice) that can emulate stereo, but I think being able to get "true" stereo recordings is worth the extra $25.

Another good mic placement is the "over-the-shoulder" placement. You place the mic about ear level over your shoulder so that the mic hears the guitar as your ear does. Couple that with one placed about 6-8" from the 12th fret aimed at the soundhole and you get a really warm, full sound.
