Alright here goes.

I'm trying to do some basic retracking on my laptop. I want to play a track soloed in the daw out to my Api Lunchbox and record the output of the Api back in the DAW.

I have my M-Audio interface plugged into to computer. I have the line out going to the DI input on my Lunchbox and I have the output of the Lunchbox going to the Mic/Line In on the M-Audio.

Trying this chain has given me very noisy tracks. Any Ideas?

It should be giving you noisy tracks because youre essentially creating a feedback loop if I'm not mistaken.

Your best bet would be to use something else to record the output from your lunchbox and then reinput it to your sequencer in other ways. Do you have any external recording device that you can output to?? Like a minidisc player maybe?? or an external 4 track?

You could also try and record the output to another recording program, like sound forge etc.. and see if the output is still noisy. if it is, it may just be that the output of your lunchbox is grainy. You may need to recheck your connections and cables. Test to make sure that the output of your lunchbox is only noisy when you attempt to reroute the signal back through it. if it works fine when outputting other signals, retrace your signal flow to see if you can find the discrepancy.

Does the lunchbox have a line-in you could use instead of a DI?
