Have you seen these things before?

I want to use them on the ceiling of my garage. They will be attached to strips of metal (resilliant channel??) every 1200mm which are horizontal to the ceiling joists. Then the plasterboard will attached to the strips of metal thus no being attached to the ceiling. Also there will be insulatoin in tne gaps.

Will this work? Will it be able to isolate enough noise of a band playing so it's not annoying for the rest of the house?

Could this method be used on the walls in conjunction with the staggered stud system as well?

One last thing, what type of insulation do you recommend for walls and ceilings?

I ahven't seen these particular ones but they look similar to the one Bruce and I were looking at for Bluebear. VERY expensive as I understand.

Do a search at this site for resilient channel which is a cheaper way to go.

Yes - very pricey (in Canada, at least!)... so much so that I didn't go with it!

If you have the bucks, I'm sure it's worthwhile!!!
 
Because my room is small it's not that expensive to put these up. They are about $4 AUD each. I'll need about 7 or 8 for the ceiling.

That price is about what I was quoted for them too.

You do have to watch the weight/load capacity of these things and from memory have them at a maximum of 1200mm centres along the length of the channel and maximum 600mm centres in the opposite direction. They have a maximum load capacity of approx., 27kg but all these dimensions, etc should be regarded as applicable in ideal situations only.

And remember that you still need some form of channel attached to the Rondo brackets.

For your application, it may be just as easy/efficient, to look at mounting resilient channel directly to the timber framing with just a neoprene pad as seperation.

Where can I get the resilient channel strips and what's the average price?

For the walls I'm going with a staggered stud system. Will there be any benefit if I put a resilient channel as well?

Resilient/furring channels are available from any plasterboard/gyprock outlet............note that I am refering to specialist outlets and not HomeHardware/Bunnings/general hardware stores. See if the is a "James Hardie" agent in your area OR contact CSR, 768 Boundary Rd, Coopers Plains. QLD 4108. Ph; 32126400. They have a couple of well illustrated booklets on these products.

Price varies considerably depending on profile, length, etc., but it really isn't that expensive considering the benefits you can achieve if it is used properly.
