Michael Joly MXL 990 mod...curious

Hey,
I was looking through Michael's site and I was listening to all the comparisons between the u87s and his mics and noting the differences until I came to the 990 mod and for the life of me I could not tell any difference between the two clips even in my DAW listening right after each other.
I am wondering if it is only me or is it really that close.
Just for my own curiosity, can you guys?

They really are that good. I own a matched pair of mk-012's that were modded by MJ. When placed correctly, they sound superb. Far sweeter than most of my (medium priced) mics. Besides being smoother, open, and more natural sounding in the mids, they are also more sensitive in the deep low end frequencies. So much so that I've got to keep my distance from things like acoustic guitar sound holes and vocal breath. But like I said, in the right spot, they really shine. Easier to EQ as well. Hell, half the time they don't even need EQ.

I would not hesitate to buy from him, if that's what you are asking.
