8 track recording / mixer

Hi, I started this topic to continue my old topic as I think that there could be a few problems (im getting emails saying people have written there then when I check there's nothing new there).

This site is brilliant. Even sent gave me the website address to www.Carvin.com which was extremely helpful!.

A few questions, I've been looking at the following setup to record my band:

The SM162 mixer (carvin) to plug everything into to get a basic mix, then either:

Maxi Studio Isis (very very cheap)
or
the KORG D-8
or
the KORG D-16 (its pretty expensive though).
or
the yamaha MD-8

if anyone could comment on that setup, letting me know what is a good, value for money setup, that'd be much appreciated.

Thanks,
billy

Hey festival of Music:

Isis is, perhaps, the Goddess of Cool Sounds?
Naw, I guess not!

[She is really the Goddess of fertility!!!]

SN's comments are so very true. Why buy two ducks when one will quack plenty?

The Yamaha MD-8 does a nice job.

The Korg will do a nice job as long as two inputs will serve you.

A good mixer and some other type of digital recorder will do a good job.

You need to scout and scope and listen and make a decision.

There is a lot of redundancy in your proposed setup. Why buy a dedicated mixer and then a mixer/recorder?
It seems better to me to buy either one mixer/multitrack recorder like the MD8, or one mixer, and one modular multitrack recorder such as a reel to reel 8 or 16 track, a Da-x8, or an ADAT, a or properly set up computer.

also the Korg D8 only has 2 inputs and two outputs and can only record two tracks at a time. Is that what you want?

What is the Maxis Studio Isis?
