Clueless with Mixing vocals. Need help!

Well I'm practically clue-less with mixing vocals, I'd prefer to do it myself rather than to send vocals to someone to mix it for me though.

I just don't seem to know what to do with the raw rap vocal recordings... I hear about compressions, reverb etc. but I just don't see to know what the "ideal" final product to sound like, despite listening to other tracks that have been mixed well. What I'm after really is a kind of tutorial I guess that can help me mix my vocals.

I went onto Youtube and watched this tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZgv7IDUe0U and a question that I have is - Do you usually have to record your vocals twice? What is the purpose of that...?

If you would like to hear a sample then shoot me a PM and I'll send you a sample .mp3 of what I have.

Record the vocals twice if you like, you can either edit between takes, or play them both back at once (called "double tracking") it's a production call that only you can make.

Post the sample mp3 in the MP3 clinic. That's exactly what it's there for.
