CD Burning / Testing Software

I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on CD burning after bouncing/dithering and such. I've got a PowerMac G4 so I'm just using iTunes. Is there any software made just for burning redbook standard CDs with code editing and all that but without the mastering aspects? I don't need any kind of EQ, Dynamics, or dither because I do that in pro tools. Also is there any software for testing CDs to catch errors? I usually burn at 4x in iTunes but I still sometimes notice a crackle or two in the final product. Could this also have to do with the type of CD I'm burning on to?? Thanks for the help.

I use a PC, and have a Plextor Premium CD burner. It comes with error checking software. I don't know if it's Mac compatible, but I am able to test various makes of CDRs to find out which ones have the lowest error rates on my setup. As far as Red Book software, I use Sony CD Architect. Again, I don't know about Mac. Hope this helps.
