studio monitors for mac book pro

Are there studio monitors that I can plug right into the mac book pro or do I need to buy a usb adapter that will take the normal L/R inputs?

there are many as long as you have some sort of adapter cable (1/8" headphone jack to rca or ts/trs or xlr) and as long as the monitors are active. you'd have to use the headphone jack if there isn't a line or speaker output. that would suck though for several reasons. the stock d/a converter in the mac book pro is probably not great (this would apply even if the mac has a speaker or line output obviously), the headphone output will be slightly amplified by a relatively crappy circuit in order to be able to drive headphones and thus the output will noisy and will be effected frequency-wise by this and the line levels will be out of whack.
in short, i'd get some sort of basic interface (at least) put in between.
