I have a Tascam 488 Mk II that I have decided to send to Tascam for inspection and repair. I suspect that I need to have the belts replaced and a thorough cleaning (the tape speed changes during playback). I received a reply from the service dept today that they charge $40 to inspect and to provide a quote for the repair work. If I authorize the repairs, the $40 is waived. Im comfortable with the cost, but does anyone have experience with Tascam regarding how long I should expect to wait before the machine is returned to me? I would prefer sending the recorder back to Tascam over using a local repair shop but dont want to wait all winter to get it back. Thanks for sharing any experiences with Tascam"s service dept.

I agree. Its not like a local shop that says they can do it but then aren't really interested in giving he job any real priority. Teac factory service is equipped and ready to service your 488mkII. I have a hunch turnaround would be very reasonable.
