how many channels does midi support?

A midi port will support up to 16 midi channels.

Each midi channel can support 128 note values (0..127) and 128 velocity values (0..127)

No wonder I was confused. You mention channels in the title of the thread and keys in the text. Which are you talking about?

And you'll have to define what you mean by, "keys" LOL!!

If you mean a number that is like the number of keys on a piano- MIDI supports 128 of those and can be extended by a command that shifts the range up or down an octave at a time.
 
yes, sorry, I was talking about piano keys, as if I were using a midi keyboard controller. My problem has been solved, thank you very much!
