Moniters!?

So...
I currently have the Fostex PM0.4 Powered Studio Monitors but i feel like they are not helping me get the correct mix. I've heard good things from the KRKs but my friend said that the Fostexs are awesome and on top of that I'm trying to get into DJing so i need to save my money. Any suggestions or advice on my situation?

Its not too well insulation.
I basically have it on a computer stand on a top shelf, is that a bad place?

Do not get the krk's unless you like a speaker that sounds like it has a "bass boost" button activated like on boom boxes. I bought them, took them home and within 30 seconds i new i made a huge mistake. Could'nt return them fast enough. Very boomy and effected. I bought the yamaha hs80m's and am extremely pleased.
