Beta 52 or Akg d112?

Personally, Neither one.
I prefer the Shure Beta-91, which is a Condenser mic that you lay inside the drum, and I just seem to like it much better myself...and these days they are only going for $220.

I have D112's as well as Atm-"pro 25" 's, the D-112 is better outside of the kick, while the Atm Pro-25 I like on the mallet spot.

The Beyer tgx-50 is my favorite dynamic Kick mic.....but I'd still opt for the condenser myself...but you just need to see what YOU like..for example, i don't like Sennheise 421's on the kick....but I do like the 441-whcih is about twice as much as the 421. (The 441 is called the "Stevie Nick's Mic" because she and Tom Petty "sang" into them in the video for their song "Stop Dragging my heart around".)

Hell, if you take a 57 apart and pull out that stupid ass transformer that's in it, and wire it straight in-it's not a bad Kick Mic.....it will give you that Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Suck My Kiss" kick sound (that's what they used on that record for the Kick drum.)
