2488 BAckUp to Send WAV to BMWerks(Raw Tracks)

Its embarrassing how easy that was to backup. daang.
So from Texas to Florida then back.... from one 2488 to another.
Will the software rev. matter?do they need to match?

maybe your orchestra band can add a few colorful tracks
before you return it?

I was reading the manual again...
Electronic Drum tracks in this thing too??

I didn't do much homework really... Just a 30day test drive.

Your methods on Tracking and then doing Mix is really a basic/foundational
concept..that werks. Doesn't matter what unit it is...very righteous for you to share.

Leaving the mixing for the M-Eng makes tracking more enjoyable too.

its all good stuf.
a lot of adventuring to do still.

"WAV" is just a bllsht label on the format the 2488 uses. Its like a Windows type file. .Wav. Example I was looking at some software that converts music to MP3 format.
It said it can convert .wav, etc... to .mp3.
Most any software can read .wav format.
I'm no software guru..but its something like that.
....

"Electronic Drum tracks in this thing too??"

Don't be embarassed I know of a 60 year old person who still can't tell his right from his left. THAT would be embarrasing! You think? I thought wav ment; want a vacation?
BTW, I often track and mix at the same time. "Electronic Drum tracks in this thing too??" Yea a whole GM package to boot.

What is "software rev."?

Reels Tascam-head Thread

Software rev... version, revision....
Software rev 1, then revision 2..etc.
Question was if Unit#1 has rev 1.00 and Unit #2 has rev 1.04 can they mesh together?

Memorial day coming...
hopefully some time to do some serious playing!!!

it's been like a Paradigm shift for me or something.
Tracking- then Mix.
Earlier the gang here opened my eyes to a lot... a lot of bad things i was doing, incorrect... Headphone usage or knowledge of was a HUGE positive change..
Your inputs on Tracking/Mixing have been HUGE in my book.
#245 was the BEST...

you know sometimes someone says something and a light bulb just goes off..or is it Goes On?
turns On?...whatever.. hehehe

Cut and Paste man...editing, get that little "bloompf" the bass player did outta there!!! nice little trick you say?

been getting some good time on the 2488. my newest stuff is the best "recorded" i've done. now theres a :)...

+ Still no hardware issues, no pop crackles, vibration problems.

- the throws on the sliders are a bit short.
- NO SCHEMATICS, gearheads want to know what damn chip is used in the Pre-Amp without popping the hood.
Even the Tascam thread still hasn't divulged the Info.

Do I dare open the hood to see what Pre-Amp IC chip is in it????

Cool, You don't know how much it pleases me to hear you say that you've gained something from my input from these threads. Yea, #245 wouldn't have happened unless you showed interest in getting down on this 2488. Sounds like your head's in the right place these days. (less frustrated) ;) :p

Have fun with it. Make some interesting music. Send me some CDs, let's see what happens.

REEL and the guests that wouldn't SHUT UP ALREADY!!!

oh yeah. just been out of touch for awhile.

i'll take you up on that long distance free mixing via the 2488.
your the Maestro- :)

4 CD's for the first one i 'backed up"!

you got me wanting to master the edit function too....
damn little "bllrrp" from the bass player on the last verse only.

amazing how one note can stand out...in all the noise.

Reel, my brother visited and the Nowhere Radio was down???
is it extinct?been a long time... i was going to play your Love Me Do track.
damn it all...as Charlton Heston would say in Planet of the Apes.

Four freak'n CDs long?????????????? huh????

4 CD's for the first one i 'backed up"!

Holy crap dude!! What is this song? 3 hours long or something? :p

It's OK. It's OK..

REEL and the Guests that just wouldn't leave

REEL, yeah its working great.
Lovely Rita...thats wild. Isolation was impressive too.

B, the song backup was 4 disc's..12 tracks off a ~4min tune.

anyway, i may be in between jobs so I been fhkd up lately.
last few weeks.

seems crap always gets in the way if you let it.

Accidentally left my 2488 on for 4 days!
No issues.
But my complaint is the computer doesn't know how to turn itself off,
when i forget..

.

Five day long project, still no issues.

 "But my complaint is the computer doesn't know how to turn itself off,

This could be a good thing Cool. What if your project should have been for 5 days? Maybe you would have lost everything you did the previous four. Sometimes you just have to look on the bright side. :o

Don't worry, these units are tested while left on for weeks and weeks at the labs. the components aren't that vulnerable. I don't think there's anything to "heat up" as there with many analog and tube dependent components.

You could probably leave it on for a year or so with out a problem if you have the proper air flow ventilation.

He's a REEL Nowhere man

i's just joking about it turning itself off...
the thing has been nothing but great.

tracking has been so fun, my gear addiction has become null and void.

working different songs and how to "get the performance down"...
its interesting, as a songwriter, singing with the guitar seems to have the best groove, but... ability to redo the vocals allows more precision (re-take).
same with a drumbeat click track... it can help but at times it makes things sterile too?

24 tracks its easy to add the little percussions and crazy ideas.

still looking to send the cd's...but been interviewing and crazy sht. it sucks actually... but i need $$ to pay the bills, man... not many jobs floating around anymore or at the moment.
i've always worked factorys or Mfg..and in the US manufacturing ain't doing too well...hell, lets be honest, its a fhkng dying dinosaur. :)

Don't hock your computer either

Hey Cool,

What ever you do man, Reel's right. DO NOT SELL YOUR 2488!!!!!
I don't know what you've been doing for a day gig, however, the hospitals are always looking for help in whatever departments. We babyboomers are getting old and our older brothers and sisters are ending up in hospitals right now. You're with people all day. Thats a good thang. Loads of opportunities in maintenance and engineering. Maybe try one of their marketing departments, enviornental, departments etc..etc...

I say hit the hospitals.

I'm sure you'll do fine. You've got the brains!!!! Remember! if things get really really bad, you need to forget you own a 2488. Pretend you don't even have it! That way, you won't hock it.

May the force of Betoven's zeal be with you! :D

dude...

wtf? chill man..everybody's entitled to an opinion, isnt that the purpose of this messageboard, or any for that matter?
come on, take it easy..

Sorry, it is not his opinion that started this. Read the thread if ya don't get it. Nobody is getting away with this shit.

Acorec,

whatever man, seriously, i just said everyone has the right to an opinion, u have yours. but you're attacking, sorry, i just dont think thats right.

i think being proud of one's gear and the results you get with it is what everyone has to aspire to! wouldnt u say?

more power to Dave if he's satisfied with what he has..idd kill for a 388 and a 246..and those are his main recorders..

i dont like the 2488 either, i think its a weak machine going for the 24bit marketing, i would bet the yamaha AW16G kills it at 16 bit, but thats me. on the other hand i think its great that ppl can make it sound good and are happy with it. ultimately it all comes down to what you can do with what u have, right?

take it easy..

Gearheads at work or is it play?

thanks for the gearhead support....may your lucky come back several times over.
i picked up a working spot at a university.
maybe Betovys force was with me?
life's full of surprises for sure, or a fhkng rollercoaster's more like it!
interviewing is what sucks worse than getting a quick "no".
its like dogs doing the ass sniff.

acorec which one made you "hate those all-in-one" "do nothing boxes"..?
your wording had me chuckling,
i felt the same way about my Roland 840 menu unit..Zip cards...!!
we got a divorce eventually.

gear...good or bad...
i use the 2488 to work a song, burn a cd...its alright IMO.

what are you wanting out of it? what's your application? Engineer, musician, songwriter, mastering mind, ObiWahn Kanobi, porta-studio live recordings, making snippet's, MIDI, bootlegging music??

2488 works well for some of these and not so well for others maybe,
i don't know either.

i reiterated that from BMWerks. "its just a fhkng piece of gear"....

i can understand people who don't like the "concept" of these type units.
hell, the pc based stuff has many sweeet options not on the 2488 too,
but if you don't like the pc interface or whatever bag your under...

to each their own. I had a Tascam RtoReel...it was too cumbersome for me.

actually i was very happy with this MiniDisk Yamaha 8-track for many years.
it was so user friendly and analog like...a very, very, very good one.. IMO.

"to each their own. I had a Tascam RtoReel...it was too cumbersome for me."

OK. Cool, me thinks you just nauled it ta the board on this one.

But I would dare to go a step further. IMHO, a lot of "dudes" out there (not mentioning any names, I love you all) can't commit to the new learning curves, takes too much time, have too much analog gear to set on the side, stuburnness or just can't afford them. They have all these reasons and more for speaking ill of these boxes.

The dudes that ARE useing these boxes to their fullest won't be found bickering on this message board as to what's the best way of documenting their artistic integrity. (jamin out)

Excellant post CC.
