Producers

The question I have is, why do newbs feel the need to call "production" what is really litttle more than building a rhythm track? Is it that they just don't know what a "producer" really *is*, or is it a way of strutting some peacock feathers?

Because they see the Neptunes or Timbaland or someone on MTV making beats for someone else's album, and still managing to pop up in the artist's video...and sometimes even getting a verse or hook of their own to sing.

Then they do everything possible to replicate that. The simple fact is that 99% of the listening public is totally naive to what a producer's responsibilities are, and think "hey, if i make a beat for my friend down the street to rap over, i can call myself a producer".
