hardware vs software mixing?

Forgive me if this is out of context, I skipped some posts.

Analog boards are fine but, in a modern studio, I can see the convenience and security in Digital consoles. Scene memories, automation, built in effects. I don't know how anybody would want it any other way.

I think that you (original poster) should go with the RME HDSP9652 and a Behringer DDX3216 console with ADAT expansion cards. It's a bit more than your price range but, well woth it in terms of quality. M-Audio, Echo, Aardvark, etc, can't compete with the positive reviews on the RME card.

My ideal set up is a Yamaha 02R96 and a couple of satnd-alone hard disk recorders. You can always dump junk into a pc later on. Of course, I don't have 10,000-12,000 bucks to realize this setup. But If I had a couple maybe three thousand bucks. The RME/Behringer setup is the way for me.
