    Refridge for my Mac

So you haven't heard of a specific product to do this...huh? I'm gonna have to call my buddy and find out. It was a pretty darn cool toy. It kept his control room free of any computer noise, (although it was ironic because his wall/window mounted AC unit blew the silence!). Anyway, I'll post...

    Refridge for my Mac

A friend of a friend had his Mac in a refridgerator type device. The fridge keeps the computer running at a cool temp, his said 86 degrees, and it is sound proof. I could try to get a hold of the guy, but it might take a while. Anyone here know what it is, what it's called, and where I can...

    Haggling at Guitar Center

Treeline is certainly right on...Definitely buying on the final day of the month or quarter is best. They're almost always willing to make deals to hit their sales targets. One question for you though is why drive at one dealership and buy at another? I don't follow the reasoning there.

    Haggling at Guitar Center

Maybe 1 out of 10,000 times this is true, but don't fall for that "I won't be able to feed my kids tonight if I sell it at that price" line. Businesses don't sell stuff at breakeven points or below cost unless they're trying to move obsolete inventory and improve their cash position. Anything...

    2006..Oktava 012 Dorsey mod questions

I've heard about the Dorsey mod, but I don't really understand what it is supposed to do. If someone's got a couple of minutes, will you explain it for me? (Or post a link to a good explanation?) Thanks.

Obviously it's up to you in the end, but the Studio Projects B1 is ~ the same price and generally gets high praise for a LCM in the $100 range, plus I believe it comes with a shockmount, which is a very nice thing. You'll be much happier if you use a shockmount. (...

    octava MK012

Slightly off topic, but I just bought two shock mounts for my 012s on ebay for a total of $30. I know they're likely not original from Oktava, but they look perfectly adequate. This is less than 1/2 price of the other "MK012 shock mounts" on ebay. I'm not sure if this link will work since...

Just checked my records, I paid $163 for 2...or $81.50 each. Still not sure exactly when I bought 'em.

    octava MK012

Last night I checked out the Sound Patterns site < http://www.sound-patterns.com/mk012/ > and listened to all of the cardioid recordings of mics "A" & "B". Without disclosing which mic is which version, in case you'd like to check it out yourselves, I have to say that I liked the Russian made...

    Improving a TLM 193

I should probably just bone up and pay for quality. That almost always gets me the best results. After reading more I don't like how the Line 6 is run through the computer. I would like it all done in the outboard unit itself.

This is quite interesting. My MK012s appear to be Russian according to most every picture from the link you posted. However, there are a couple of things that seem more Chinese: 1.) Mine say A.S.M. at the bottom as do the Chinese mics on the right 2.) Mine say Oktava like the Chinese mics...

I figured the 68 was meant to be 58...that seems more likely to me for some reason. The 58 is a good choice...not quite 10£ cheap...but good for the £.

Warm vocal microphone for recording on PC?

They're staples. No more...no less. Tremendous value per $. However, if you can swing the Beta 57 your in an even better world.

    M-Audio DMP3 or Studio Projects VTB1?

Nevermind...I should've just googled it in the first place!

    M-Audio DMP3 or Studio Projects VTB1?

Please forgive my ignorance, but which companies make the DMP3 and the VTB-1? I'm trying to learn about pres and looking at full compass, but struggling a bit.

    Improving a TLM 193

I've also looked into building my own pres. My friend bought his 2 channel from <http://www.paia.com/> and he really likes it. One channel has a very slight buzz, which is covered with any sort of sound...but is there nonetheless. The other channel is perfectly clean. He said it wasn't...

    Improving a TLM 193

Thanks for everyone's advice. It's essentially what I expected to hear. I'm still open to other recommendations regarding pres. That Line 6 tone port ux2 sounds interesting since I've been impressed with the Pod xt. I know many on this site would pooh-pooh modelers, but it's certainly a...

    Improving a TLM 193

That seems fair enough. Any recommendations on pres, considering I don't want to spend very much, or will being thrifty on a pre defeat the purpose? I guess I'm looking for a good value, whatever that be.

    Improving a TLM 193

Okay, I am sure this posting (or a very similar one), has been posted before, but I didn't see what I needed with my search. Additionally, I read through the "Microphone FAQ" thread as well as did some Google searching without too much success...enough of the disclaimers. I bought a TLM 193...
