I know this sounds pretty newbie, but if I just want a mic pre for vocals, is a one channel pre enough?

If I made a song at home and recorded my vocals with a at4047 and I brought it to get it mastered and mixed at a studio, would it come out with that "top sound," even if the vocals weren't recorded on a world class pre amp?

when making basslines, dont make it so that it interferes with the rest of your mix. Most beginners play a bassline that doesnt go together with everything else. you have to have it real separate from the other tracks. thats about all i can say on making a good bassline
