I don't think we're in Kansas anymore Toto

So, I was out in Kansas over the weekend, and the *highlight* of my trip was a visit to the Musicians Friend main distribution center, which has an outlet store in it. Wow, I thought.....this is gonna be a great chance to score some amazing deals on some gear, minor blems, overstocks, etc...

    Cover Band Demos

Just curious, what's the norm for cover band demos these days? Are bands wanting a studio production, a one take/one room keepin it real recording, or somewhere in between? What do the club owners expect?

Chorder for use with midi pedalboard

Anyone know of a standalone (not VST) software chorder that would be good for live use with my newly aquired Roland PK-5 midi pedalboard? I know several sequencers have this feature, but I'm looking for a simple program more suited for live use.

    Anyone else go to AES?

Just wondering if anyone else made it to AES this year in San Francisco? It was fabulous, and for those who have never been, if you get the chance sometime, it's big fun. Having guys like Rupert Neve, George Massnenburg, Toft, Fern, etc. sitting in front of you having a discussion on the subject...

2x2 Laptop interface for live Kontakt use.

What's a good but inexpensive laptop interface that plays well with Kontakt? I'd prefer to use USB if it solid enough for only a 2x2, and doesn't introduce latency issues. The main application would be for live use of Kontakt, occasionally recording a stereo feed at the same time. The laptop...

Deal Alert - Lynx AES 16

No, this isn't spam. Just want to pass on that there's a Lynx AES 16 card, 16 channels of 24 bit 192K AES/EBU, at the local Guitar Showcase swap shop for $175.00. Too good a deal not to pass on to anyone in need. Let me know if you need more info.

SSL - coming to a DAW near you.

SSL is coming out with Duende, a new DSP unit and plugins, similar to TC-Powercore and UAD in concept. Mac only initially, PC support will follow. Also up the road is TC-PowerCore and UAD-1 compatability. I'm pretty excited about this for my PowerCore card...

    The truth about soundcards

For any of you out there wondering who to believe, the print on the box and ads for soundcards like the SB Audigy, which tell you they are studio quality, or the folks in here who tell you get a real soundcard, though you wonder if we're just stuck up gear snobs............. here's the freq...
