I need to replace an aging 2007 Macbook Pro that served me very well. I am looking at the 2011 i5 2.5 Ghz iMac and a2011 2.5 Ghz i5 Mini My primary use of the computer will be as a DAW. I use Logic Express 9 and a PreSonus firestudio Project.

Update: I ended up buying the Presonus Firestudio Project for $499. I have had some challenges with the 'Universal Control' freezing on my Mac but will be giving the device another week before I think about trying something else.

How about latency during live performance? If I use the interface as mixer for live performance will USB 2.0 / FW make a difference?

That is not true - I have a 2010 MacBook Pro with FW800. All the new 2010 iMacs / Mac Mini's, have FW800.

Perhaps FireWire is the better choice for a Mac and USB 2.0 for PC?
