It sounds like you're hinting that a TDM Mac PT plugin is the only way to approach, say a $5000 Tube Tech, but Waves 'Native' could perhaps...

I guess I am afraid of the old "no free lunch/ you get what you paid for" syndrome. Most Saw Plugins run at about $150, whereas a good EQ box I figure runs in the thousands.

Im no expert, but here's a start... if you have a CD burner (not just a reader) on your PC then you probably have some burning software that came with it, like "Adaptec Easy CD Creater" which is usually distributed with burners.
If you can create .wav files (and other formats) with ProTools...

I got RME, and I think it is one of the best for PC, but you need an external converter (which, surprisingly, is actually a feature cause you end up with better, noise - free audio).
