Tracking a monosignal through 2 tracks on a mixer

Thanks Thanx mixsit, Thanx spiral, I record through both stereo inputs because I am too lazy to reset the panning on the sub-outs that go to the recording card. With this setting, I only have to send the signal to the sub-outs (one button), and worry in Cubase wether to record in mono or...

    Sample clearance

Yeah, but what if you don't get an answer when asking for permission? Now don't laugh, but for the heck of it, I wrote to 20th century fox for the use of their fanfare at the beginning of their movies. Here are the facts: - I am recording a rap group in Niger. Their probable duplication...

Tracking a monosignal through 2 tracks on a mixer

I was wondering: Is there anything to consider in this signal-path? microphone ----> mic-preamp (mono) ----> mixing desk track (mono) ----> mixing desk sub-outs (stereo, panned hard left/right respectively) ----> PC-card stereo ins ----> Cubase recording in MONO I have always tracked this way...

"Mastering" at home - Tape simulations

Price for Mastering at a dedicated place?

In my home studio I have managed to get the sound I want and - sort of - expected on a CD. They were always singles for an artist here, another one there. Right now I am working on a whole CD for an artist which merits a more professional approach, so for the first time I am thinking of letting...

    What's with my new monitors???

I got PS-8s - Even they have no bass! I went from KRoKits to Event's PS-8. I went for them because the implied range goes down to 35 Hz. After a year of working every night: I actually still miss my KROKits. I also thought "Aw! I just have to "learn" the sound of the PS8s", but after really...

"Mastering" at home - Tape simulations

I know it isn't mastering (that's why I put it in !quotes") - it is more of twiddling at my wave-file until I am bored.;) To those with the golden ears (to help me with my tin ears): Where would you put a tape simulator? At the very last stage? These are my "mastering"-wannabe-tools...

    Dust!

MOLD?! Yeah! That's the way I see it too. It isn't a big world anymore. It may sound corny, but I actually sometimes go "Why can't we all get along?..." :D But we can't probably get along as long as I insist on playing Steve Vai guitar at full volume and nobody around here understands...

    Djembe micing

Niamey Hello Harald, yes I am in Niamey. And as I can see, you are in another desert in Mexico! Must be just as hot there! Well, right now we are "freezing" with 22°C. ;) No, I am not with Uni Hohenheim. I knew my neighbours were with them. Mahlers. Their children played with our children on...

    Djembe micing

Djembes with lows? I find your opinions interesting, even though I differ. But hey, I am just your typical home recorder. Are you really sure that Djembes have "low" frequencies? I Agree about the mids (and what I percieve as "low" would be low-mids), but even highs I don't find them...

    Dust!

Recording in Niger cerealchamp2000, Sorry to dissapoint you, but I'm not a full-fledged engineer, just a passionate rock-pop music lover which with this expatriate contract was able to buy himself a small project studio. At days as Dr. Jekyll I work for the german development, and at nights I...

    Dust!

You think you have dust problems?!?! For the last couple of years I have lived in Niger, Westafrica, just to the south of the Sahara. My problems in no particular order: - Sandstorms (You can close all doors, windows - nothing helps) - Powercuts (I have two fuse boxes in series to save my PC) -...

Mastering yourself with LOTS of time vs. Mastering House (couple of hours)

Now where, when, who was that?!? Hey sjoko2! I don't recognise the people (is it Abdallah?), and I suppose the anassara (="white person") is you :-), but that's my enviroment here! The last Touareg I recorded was a friend who had never multitracked, and had some difficulties adjusting. Now...
