You are correct in that latency becomes an issue when overdubbing or adding tracks.
You shouldn't have any issue with latency if you are tracking live and not going through the computer and back out for monitoring purposes. Make sure your buffers are sufficient to avoid any glitches during data transfers to the computer. The US1800 provides for direct monitoring, so that would be the way to go if you monitor the tracks rather than just playing live.
How many tracks does the 1800 send to the DAW? I was under the impression that it only sent 4 individual tracks.
