I'm new here and I'm from Germany, living in Wesel near Düsseldorf.
I still own my portastudio 244, which I bought new in 1984.
Apart from using it a lot for the first years at home, after that I didn't use it for a long time until now. Some weeks ago I tried it again but the capstan and control belt was worn out, which seems to be typically and quite normal, as I could read. So I ordered both belts and changed it.
Now the portastudio plays and records fine again and I could be happy, but it still makes some strange noises, sounding like a quite loud ..tak tak tak tak... coming from inside of the transport section ( not the tape ! ) when the tape drives forward or backward when using the forward or rewind button . I can't remember of this noise, too long ago but it seems not normal. Somebody perhaps knows what the reason could be for this? Also further worn out rubber pieces inside the tape transport section?
To change the capstan and control belt was quite an easy one, because only the bottom was to remove in order to do the repair. But how can I fix this problem?
