Cannot adjust audiolevel on Tascam FW-1082

Hello,
want to make live recording for orchestra and choir.
Just bought a Tascam FW-1082 with bundled Cubase LE.
Not much experience with the two....
Installed the Windows version 1.40 > went smooth...

Problem:
Cannot adjust track recording-audio-levels with the FADERS >> only with the TRIM-pots.....

In the owners manual page 24 there is a writeup about it:

Another important point to note is that, in MON MIX
mode, the faders do not affect the levels the inputs sent
to your DAW. The levels to the DAW inputs from analog
inputs 1 through 8 (Bank 1) are controlled solely by
their respective TRIM pots. The two digital inputs (Bank
2) are passed to your DAW application at unity gain;
their level must be regulated at the digital source.

So put it in COMPUTER mode.....but no success...audio levels stay constant > only the TRIM-pots changes the live recording levels....

I cannot image it is not possible.......basic functionality to me.
Went through the Cubase manual and tried several different settings in Cubase, but no result.

Can somebody help me how to get it working...?
