signal noise/ hissing

Any help would be great thanks. I am using cubase le till i get my money up for the full version of cubase 5 and when the mic is muted or even not connected i can hear a low noise kind of hissing and popping lik i can hear the processor in the computer doing it's thing. Here's what i have connected cardiod condenser mic to dbx vocal processor to tapco 260fx mixer to tascam u122L to the computer please help

Could be the DBX or you have a ground loop. Remove one by one untill it is gone.

Connect to the powergrid by means of a star configuration. So all on the same wallplug.
