I'm thinking of getting a 1680 but really can't see using much more then Reverb, delay and maybe eq for my projects.

I can buy a 1680 at a great price with no effects cards.

Any thoughts on this??

Knowing myself and knowing what types of effects are included in these units (and I know they're supossed to be great) I just can't see using more than a few...and perhaps can just run them thru the Aux's.

Any Thoughts??

I have been a Roland owner for a couple of years....I had a VS880 and just moved up to the 1880 a few days ago :)

All I can say is...you say that NOW! ;)

Seriously, pick up the 1680, and pick up ONE fx card to begin with. GREAT reverbs, and anything else you need now, plus the COSM models for guitar and the vocal effects are outstanding. The fx cards are worth the money, and you'll spend as much or more and get less going the outboard route, unless you specifically seek the Lexicon reverb sound, etc.

Plus, I don't like routing to external effects...to me, it's a pain and not as flexible as having the internal card.

The only outboard gear I use is a mic preamp (Midiman AudioBuddy) and a RNC Compressor.

Best,
Dan
